Yeah, you're not married...  😙

He is undoubtedly one of the finest ball strikers of his generation and still hits it better than most of the guys out there.

100%.    Also, "knowledgable" caddies are vastly overrated for many experienced players with strong minds ... which most experienced players have learned to develop.

Great guy and player. Hard to not be given how long he’s been out there getting it done. He just can’t seem to win the big one but who knows. Maybe he can keep riding the momentum for this season and finally get there. Solo second has to feel pretty good at this stage in his career given the magnitude of this event and talent level out there.

I picked him in my golf pool, texted a buddy before the round saying he is not a strong finisher on Sundays.  His ball striking was shaky at best.  He could have shot 80 today if he didn’t get a couple of lucky bounces.  He seems like a good guy but there is a reason he never won a major, and we saw it again today.

Oh well, he won a LOT of money, has a hot caddie girlfriend, but damn it, I finished one spot out of the money in my pool. 🤧

That last putt was pretty clutch and he earned about $600k just by making that. Yeah he didn't win but a pretty good show for an old guy.

With a net worth of $40 Million i'm not sure the $600k was wholly important.

Another USPGA Tour Win; especially one of this magnitude - would have been priceless i'd say. Especially at this (late stage ?) of his career.

Hope he's NOT en-route to be the best player ever to not win a Major. But you'd have to think it's heading that way.......

In the very biggest events, Westwood often seems to just let it happen rather than take advantage, he rarely has a meltdown 80 or anything but he'll often shoot 71, while someone else shoots 66 to pip it off him. This has happened a few times in majors as well.

The 2010 Masters, he was leading going into the weekend and he shot 68-71 at the weekend, which is pretty good. But Mickelson shot 67-67. It was similar here, it wasn't the easiest day final round conditions ever, so a 72 wasn't a disaster. But Thomas wins it with a 68. The shot on 17 was hardly as daring as Harman's on 17, a bit too conservative and still ended up with a 4 after all.

But at this point of his career, I think he's in bonus territory. Nobody is learning anything new about Westwood and everybody has made their mind up about him already. At 48, it's amazing to finish 2nd twice in two premium PGA Tour events, losing to players 20 years younger than you. It shows his ball-striking is timeless and hopefully he's gained added respect in America after those tournaments.

The dynamic between Westwood and Fitzpatrick on Saturday was interesting. There was the youngster out there with Westwood’s old caddie Billy, considered by many to be one of the best out there, struggling to get anything going whilst Westwood was there was his GF who’s sole experience of caddying is carrying the bag for her man.

Over the weekend, there was some interesting t** bits as well. On Saturday he had said the he went through his yardage book the night before plotting his way around the course then yesterday, there was one shot that he hit that he the explained to his partner after he had hit it, in terms of what he had been trying to achieve. I cannot imagine a similar conversation happening after the shot with many player-caddies on Tour.

It would be nice to add that to his British Masters win in 2007 and I won’t even get started on his European Masters 😂

Dude is 47 years old and obviously didn't have his A game yesterday. He battled and lost by a stroke, he could have packed it in and just finished top 10. Much respect.

It took 2 masterful rounds by arguably 2 of the biggest stars in the game to beat a 47 yo Lee Westwood the last 2 weeks who had his fiancee carrying the bag.  I'm more impressed that she carries that huge heavy bag all day for 4 rounds. 😂

I don't agree with this with regards to Westwood. There's a reason he has his girlfriend on his bag. She's plays a major part helping him have a calm mind during the round. It's evident by watching him play and their interaction, and he's also said as much.

“At my stage of my career, there’s not a lot a caddie can tell me, but obviously Helen gets me in a fantastic mood out there, and psychologically she can help me and say the things that I need to hear,” Westwood said Saturday. “She helps me in that aspect an immeasurable amount.”

I don't think 48 year olds qualify for the best player not to win a Major...they're past their prime, and anything from say, 45, on is a purely a bonus.  Westwood was mentioned in that category quite often, though, 10+ years ago.

As for his net worth, unless you're his accountant, no one has a clue...or what his liabilities and expenses are.

And if you're right, then 600K represents 1.5% of his net worth which, while not life altering, is still sizable.  That's a year's worth of dividends from the S&P 500!

It's good to see Westwood enjoying the life he's made for himself. I'm not sure he expected it to work as well as it has so all this attention and prize money probably feels like a bit of a windfall.

The whole player/caddie thing is interesting. Seems like it exists a weird bubble inside the rules of golf. You're not allowed to solicit advice from anyone during your round, except this one guy you pay to carry your bag and help you navigate the course.

I somewhat wonder if we'll ever see a player/caddie duo where the caddie tells the player exactly what to do on every shot, and the player simply executes those instructions to the best of his ability. That would be legal under the rules, right?

There are probably players who could perform better under those circumstances, freed from the anxiety of making decisions, focused only on executing instructions from someone else like a wind-up doll. And some crafty coach/caddie might work through a number of players until he found the one who thrived under those circumstances. And maybe this team worked under a different split arrangement, closer to 60/40 than 95/5. It would be interesting to see how that duo was treated by the Tour and the public.

I think it's Ryan Palmer..... One tournament a year, he plays and goes with whatever his caddie says. If I recall correctly, he said it typically works out pretty well.
