Well said and he has been playing long enough that he knows his game and the courses. Besides he has his lady on the bag and is having a good time and is sorta freewheeling. I do not think he needs the money and so he is having fun competing

He has to have a good opportunity at the Masters?  There is always a guide to the Masters on this website a few days before the tournament.  The key stat is iron play from 175-225 yards.  Surely that is Westwood's sweet spot?  Seems to have a functional putting stroke now and experience seems to count for so much at Augusta.

Lee, thanks for reaching out to us.  Let's hope we can offer a small word of advice.  We have been thrilled to watch you the last 2 Sundays in the final group on the big USA tour.  The lads in Nottinghamshire stand behind you, to a man.

Of course, now that we have seen what happens to you on Sunday afternoon we need to talk about how you can fix the problem.  That's right Lee, you gotta fix the problem, no one else can do it.

Here is our recipe to Sunday success: On Monday and Tuesday of every golf week do as you please: eat, drink, party to the limit. But from Wednesday thru Sunday 5pm, you gotta control your intake and desires by hitting far fewer balls before any match, by eating less red meat, by drinking less alcohol, by getting fewer 'legs over' and by resting your legs every chance you get.

Your body cannot recover as fast as those half your age, so you must conserve your energy and strength as much as possible.  You, obviously, have every shot in the book, but when the legs tire the hips don't work as fast or as smoothly, your control of the shot wavers and the bloody ball goes astray. Rest, recover, recuperate and succeed.

Please heed these humble words of advice Lee and may god speed you to the Green Jacket.

Spot on with these posts.  Caddies are pack mules.

No better example than Bones and his endless drivel.  His "insightful commentary" is nothing more than what we see on TV.

"It looks like a thick lie, he has a tree 3 feet away and bunkers left of the green.  If he lands it on the green, it will more than likely bounce a little, roll and stop.  His big decision here is what club to hit in order to hit the green and create the sort of bounce and spin required to make the shot.  The sun is out and the clouds went away."

Enough already.

One of the reasons most of the time on golf telecasts the mute button on the TV is on with the stereo playing golden oldies or Southern Gospel. My eyes work fine my brain works fine and I have been playing and watching golf long enough to know what is going on without all the BS

Give her a little more respect. You dont know what she does pre round. She could be walking off yardages and finding out the breaks of different greens. Some of these players really dont need their caddy to play golf. A lot of them use their caddies as their bounce off wall when they do question something. At the end of the day, Lee is the one who pulls the trigger. When he pulled his drive on 16 into the bunker, I doubt his caddie told him to do that. Ultimately its his choice. He is playing awesome none the less. I always liked his game and is a player I often root for. I was pulling for him this past weekend.

For obvious reasons, they should delay the marriage.  This situation of walking in step, caddie/golfer/wedlock, appears troublesome.   It could hamper success once the vows are read aloud.   Concerned that's all.

Everyone thought Dj was making a mistake when he put Austin on the bag and that had worked out pretty well.

I hear you. Yes if it were me, I would not have any loved one holding the bag for me. It has to be a player caddie relationship and that is it. They must have some sort of agreement to keep it professional inside the ropes. But we all know how that goes.

She can handle her own life, but I think she chooses to be on the bag.  She's tough.

I think her dad worked in a foundry.  That's real work.

It took 2 masterful rounds by arguably 2 of the biggest stars in the game to beat a 47 yo Lee Westwood the last 2 weeks who had his fiancee carrying the bag.  I'm more impressed that she carries that huge heavy bag all day for 4 rounds. 😂

Seriously ... couldnt he do w a super lite PING Hoofer ... arent they supposed to be the best

Im sure she would be appreciative 😂😂😂

He means The Open. There is no British Open.

There are books that have been published in the UK, written by UK authors that (including title) refer to the Open Championship and . . . the British Open.

Newspapers and journalists the same.

Been called the British Open over here since the turn of the century, so if folks over the pond have also on many occasions used the term over the decades as well, what's the harm?

Everyone knows the official name, but there does seem to be an effort to keep it at the forefront the past many years and if eventually takes center stage more so than it has, that's terrific.

Some people seem to enjoy getting caught up on silly stuff, like getting peeved when someone says "golfing" instead of "playing golf," or "sand trap" instead of "bunker" or whatever. It's tiresome.

I know what you are saying but not where I was headed - I’m all for calling The Open Championship by its right name, just need to get past some remaining generations that know it one way.

I really enjoy watching Westy play over the past few years. His perspective in interviews is great and I find it to be more enjoyable to watch someone who is confident in their game and having a great day than watching someone who has made the stakes unrealistic in their mind. Even when you're talking about millions of dollars on the line, it's still just a game. One that we all enjoy and work a lifetime to master.

That said, I would assume that having Helen by his side is a massive boost for his spirits. Sometimes, I think that 60% or more of the game is purely in your own head, and if you've got a partner out there that can help you stay clear during a round, that's more important than someone who's figured out the lie of a shot.

Cheers to the both of them for making golf fun to watch. The fact that they'll sneak a smooch when he sinks a put just shows that they're at a point where the game is fun. And, to have his son caddie some of the tournaments when Helen can't be there is just incredible. Makes me get all the '86 vibes of Jack and Jackie out on the links.

I enjoyed watching Westy the last two weekends.  You can see he's happy to have his girlfriend on the bag and is having a good time out there.  Wish he closed one of those out, especially the Players.

Yeah, imagine having been an elite player for nearly quarter of a century, having gotten to World Number 1, played 10 Ryder Cups, won 44 times around the world and have people talk about you when you are still in the world Top 20 playing against guys almost half your age.

He got to #1 because of a computer algorithm, not because he did anything great. "10 Ryder Cups" lmao

It’s also why we call it the Augusta Masters...so as not to confuse it with the Andalusian Masters 😉
