DJ removes himself from Olympic consideration?...

You need to learn what the rules are from traveling from the US for business which is what the Athletes would be considered under.

Olympic athletes will not be treated the same as business travelers. There will be no quarantine for them.

Do I have to say it a fourth time?

With the ongoing C-19 situation, this would be the perfect opportunity to strip the Olympics back to it's core events - track & field, swimming, cycling, weightlifting etc. No golf, tennis, soccer, basketball.

It's become too big for most countries to host.

While I really enjoy watching many of the Olympic sports, there are some that make we wonder who’s in charge. Skateboarding and rhythmic gymnastics? And before they got roasted by everyone the IOC made the decision (later reversed) to eliminate wrestling  from the 2020 Olympics.

I have told you I know they won't be required to quarantine but as of now they won't have free run of the place like you claim. You have shown how clueless you are on travel to Japan by claiming it isn't restrictive when it is one of the most strict places to travel in the world. You can't even go there other than business and there are more rules that I explained a few of them to you that you refuse to let sink in.

Interesting that this discussion had devolved into a discussion of Covid restrictions.  I never heard or saw that DJ indicated this had anything to do with his decision.  Interestingly enough, before the Olympics were postponed in 2020, he had already said he would pass as well...and that was before any restrictions anywhere.

DJ doesn’t have to rip up anything. He can play all the tournaments he is interested in. All I’m saying is just admit what the real reason is.

That would open a can of worms that all the credit in the world for being honest could not put a lid on. Sometimes honesty just isn't worth it. The sentiment below (not that it's wrong to hold it) would be given energy to scale up thousands of times with such honesty. That's a benefit to no one.

...a lot of people put in a lot of effort to get golf into the Olympics to help grow the game. There is a popular outside view from other sports, at least on my side of the Atlantic, that the PGA Tour has some of the most entitled athletes in the world of sport, if lots of them skip it then it only adds to that impression in my opinion.

The rules for the athletes are in flux now as they are for everyone in the Kano area. There in no relationship between the rules for athletes and business travelers.

None of the golfers will be hopping on the Yamanote train line to go anywhere anyway. They’ll be driven wherever they go. The village has a dedicated food and entertainment area where athletes will be able go, since none of them speak enough Japanese to venture anywhere on their own.

I have a permanent resident visa and lived in a Japan for about 27 years. All of the other athletes will mange to get there and be taken care of.

I get it that some people aren’t excited  different cultures, languages and food very well. And maybe even less with no appearance money. Others have no sense of adventure.

It’s interesting.  I love food.  And absolutely love to try new food.  Language i could get around pretty easy as I’m polite , patient and self sufficient.  But the getting there.  Ugh.  I just hate small spaces and rules.  I need to hop a ride on a C17 making the jump ,  where I could catch a hammock for the ride or something.  Adventure isn’t it.  Just hate  he cramped ride with people.

DJ is always gonna take care of DJ first, understandably. Plus patriotism is dead in this country, he'd sooner play for China if they offered him $$$ and a way to do it.

Who gets to define what Patriotism is? The Olympics are a pretty corrupt event that most smart countries have no interest in hosting anymore. There have been protests in countries who have even shown interest in hosting, against hosting it

These guys are like a corrupt construction company building bridges to nowhere, except times 100.

And they really on the notion that patriots play in the games to build their crooked business.

Other than that, i love the olympics

I agree, but now we have athletes protesting their own nations while "representing" them. But we don't need go down this rabbit hole as we all know where it goes...

Talking about the Gold and bringing one home probably feels good.  However, it's a costly task that may or may not be fruitful.  After watching the limited broadcast of the last Olympic golf event, not sure if I will bother this go-around.   I am sure the effects of the virus will not have a good effect on broadcasting games, much less golf.

Once they let the Dream Team play that horse left the barn, and the Olympics changed forever

Except the sham of amatuerism in the 60's and 70's made me laugh. Everyone from eastern block countries was an officer in armed forces which gave them unlimited time and benefits to train. Still remember some of our track athletes having to almost go into debt just to get to the trials. The 88 basketball team with college players was not competitive with the so called amatuers on other teams.

Perhaps DJ is more like Weiskopf than you? Weiskopf skipped a Ryder Cup to go hunting.  You find the Olympics to be a big deal and he evidently considers his pro career to be more important to him.

Neither is wrong but one should not be forced on the other.

The Ryder Cup is still golf nerd stuff

Weiskopf was too cool for that but the Olympics is the real deal

I’d say most threads here typically evolve, or in this case devolve. Start on the last page of a thread that is at least 4-5 pages long and read it. You win if you can remember the original topic! 🤣

I understand and appreciate the grief of being jammed in an aluminum tube with the masses for 11 hours or so. No stuffiness intended here, but the airlines couldn't pay me to fly 30 minutes in economy class now.

In the old days, people dressed well, took showers, said "excuse me" and were generally polite and considerate of their fellow travelers. Now, people show up to fly 12 hours in tanks tops, they stink, they sweat, they are loud and obnoxious. And those are the flight attendants! 🙂

There is still some dignity and class flying on Japan Airlines, ANA, Singapore Airlines, etc., so that's the only way I'll fly to and from Asia now. And Business Class with a fold down bed. When someone goes to the bathroom. the flight attendants will go in after they are finished and be sure it is clean and presentable for the next passenger. The Delta flight attendants can even fit in the door of the bathroom. 🙂

DJ would be treated like royalty, but I'm not going to judge him for not going - for any reason he chooses.

A friend, who was a long time Pan Am and TWA  flight purser used to say " We still have first class on our planes, sadly , we no longer have first class passengers"

olympics have become an afterthought. dj will give every correct pc response handled by his team.. but it boils down to fact no one cares about medals when it comes to golf.

a real USA patriot wouldn't show up to compete in communist china and this doesn't even touch the topic of Uyghurs

If I were PGA player I'd rather win Harbor Town than gold at olympics
