Driver shaft to 3Wood

I was hoping someone could give me some input.  I currently have a Tour AD DI 6S Driver shaft lying around. The shaft came from a Titleist 917 D3 and was playing at 45 inches.  I then had a club builder swap out the tip from a Titleist to a Ping G410.   I was using this shaft alongside my Nemesys 65S last year and decided that I like the feel of the Nemesys better in the Ping head.  As such, I have no immediate use for the Tour AD DI 6S as a driver shaft.  With that said,  I am in the process of testing new 3 woods and 5/7 Woods  and believe that I have it narrowed down to the Mizuno STZ FWY or the Ping G425 Max FWY.  I am likely going to go with a Ventus red in one of the 3 or 5/7 wood and potentially the other, but figured I would also give the Tour AD DI 6S a try in the 3 wood first before committing to a second Ventus purchase.  From my understanding, the shaft would have been tipped 1/2 inch by Titleist originally.  In order to convert it from a 45 inch playing length driver in the Titleist to a 43 inch playing length in the Mizuno or Ping, what do I need to have done to the shaft?  I was figuring that it would be taking a 1/2 inch off the tip and another 1.5 inches off the butt end of the club?  This would get me to a 3 wood that is tipped 1 inch?  For reference, my SS with driver is 98-105 MPH.  I am trying to get to what would be considered "standard" tipping for this shaft with a 3 wood (I am not trying to make the shaft stiffer than it is).  Thanks for any input.

GD recommends 1/2" tipping for the 3wd for the AD-DI.   So if Titleist really did tip it 1/2" then there is no need for more unless you want it to play a bit stiffer.

However, Titleist's tipping practices have been a bit dynamic over the years.  They don't tip all shafts 1/2" in the driver (at least not since the 913 release).  Each year the list of which shafts they tip and which they don't seems to change.  So it's best to verify the tipping with a tip to graphic measurement after you pull the adapter.

Determine butt cutting based on an actual measurement on a club ruler (easy to make a DIY one if you don't have one).   Fairways and drivers tend to have different BBGM so you can't use the driver playing length to tell you what you need to do to get a particular fairway playing length.

I have been getting back a lot of feedback on customers using the Xcaliber Pro TSL driver shaft into a 3 w.

Its only a 50 g shaft and general practice on a 3w would suggest its too light. But after 4 different guys raved about the performance I did one myself.

I tipped the TS version of the TSL for a Sim Ti 3w and cut it to 43". It took a few swings to get comfortable with it but it turned into a missile. I was really struggling with finding the right shaft and here it is. Straight as an arrow and carry is 240-245. I was very reluctant to even try it at 50g but I'm glad I did.  Swing weight was at D2.

about an inch of the tip will be inserted into any adapter...some a little more, but 1/2" way too little

I would suggest going straight into Mizuno adapter if already tipped 1/2"

but I just had shaft installed into ST-Z 3 wood and one thing you need to check...the Mizuno adapter is pretty shallow and there's no ferrule above sleeve like most other OEMs

if you pull shaft from Titleist (or even Ping G410) adapter, there will be longer section of tip prep that will show above the Mizuno adapter...so I would tip trim additional quarter to half inch just to make it look clean and nice

Thanks, one follow up.  Does anyone know approximately how much of the shaft sits within a ping g410 adapter?

Most adapters will actually be between 1.25" and 1.5" maybe even a bit more for those with bigger ferrules like Titleist and Callaway.

Haven't measured the newer Ping adapter but the previous gen Ping adapter (g30 - g400), the insertion depth is 1.325" from the tip of the shaft to the top of the ferrule.   I would suspect the 410 adapter is very similar since it wasn't that radical a change in design.
