Kevin burns fitting

Recommended Posts

Has anyone gone through the fitting process for a kevin burns putter?

I have the opportunity to do a fitting with a fitter in socal using Kevin Burns proprietary fitting method, or I can go to a roger dunn and do a quintic fitting and I'm not quite sure what I should do. Would love to hear from anyone whose been fit through Kevin Burns fitting method.

Havent had a Kevin Burns fitting, but you can find some info here https://kbgolf.com/pages/fitting. They do not mention using Quintic or any sort of SAM device; to me the only putter fitting worth anything is one using a Quintic/SAM device. There are things the computers can pickup that no eye test will; I would see if KB does use that at all or if its just their "mobile fitting unit."

Mostly PING clubs, with TaylorMade woods.

So I dove into it, and this is the system that kevin burns uses (although I think he may have refined it now, since this video is nearly 10 years old) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRpAwasxC-o. Essentially they use this system to get you into an appropriate and comfortable posture, then the computer will spit out the measurements. Then (I believe) the fitter goes and puts together various heads that are at that recommended spec, and brings them out for you to try. When I spoke with Brendan on the phone who works there, he said that the fitting has a huge lesson component that emphases controlling face rotation.

Either way, my concern is that it sounds like their fitting is a pretty static process, and I'm not sure if that's going to be a huge issue or not.

In todays world a launch monitor can tells you everything you need to know!  In a game of inches, the moment of truth is what is happening 2 inches in front of the ball and the 2 inches behind the ball.  There is still an argument that the 4 inches between our ears matter more.

Plenty of moving parts to trying to get the same result.  I know the teacher John Jacobs just need to see the ball fight but today pros send their Trackman numbers to their respective coaches and not a swing video.

Thread might be a bit old, but I've had a decent number of KB fittings over the years. I have a lot of putters (some SCs and some Burns). KB is a great guy and has proven to me that he knows his stuff. My latest current custom putter from him is the best putter I've ever had.

Yes, you set up with a putter handle that is attached to a system that sends info to a computer and he makes sure you're standing how you should be and once all looks right, bam, he has the info needed to build your putter.

His shop used to be in San Jose, CA not too far from me. He's now up in Hayward.

Highly recommended.  Also, I love what Yarra says above and totally agree. It is an art and I feel KB fits that as well. I remember well, him laughing at me when I showed up with my launch monitor dots on my putter clubface. (ouch)

What you've written makes good sense whereas fitting to a poor technique is nonsense.

Bumping this thread…

I’ve been in contact with Kevin about a putter project.  Unfortunately, I don’t live in an area that is close to him to do a fitting in person.  He wants to set up a zoom meeting and do a virtual fitting.  I’ve never done a virtual fitting before, but he is so well respected in the industry I’m willing to throw caution to the wind and let him and his son work their magic.

I’ve been searching lately in that part of the bag.  Having a hard time getting comfortable and trusting it.  Hopefully this process can be enlightening.

Anyone do a virtual with KB recently that can give some feedback?

TIA!
