Opinion on Ping?

Recommended Posts

I find it weird that they get bagged on because of some weird following.  The following for mizuno and now srixon, as least on here, seems 10x worse.

I'm not strictly an adherent, but i have several sets (eye2, isi becu and i500) and multiple drivers (tisi, g15, g400) because they carry their stuff in left-handed, which i think is worthy of loyalty.  Now though, about the only ones left in the bag are the glide 3 and the heppler.  The irons are now pxg, which also is extremely lefty friendly.  I consider them ping-junior anyways.  The son is more obnoxious than the father, but they both make good stuff and substantially all in LH.

Pings are sticks you have to try to believe. You hit whatever Ping and you find out on the spot the rest of the OEMs are “faking” forgiveness. The consistency and feel of Ping can’t be topped. Good there’s not a lot of marketing by Ping so the brand followers have an edge over the rest in the amateur ranks.

Ping fan here....I played i5s for years and now have G710s. Echoing others, the clubs work and it is a family owned business!

I should add that my bag also contains a G400 driver, G410 5 Hybrid (about to get a 6 Hybrid),  a Glide 3.0 Eye-2 sand wedge and a milled Anser 5 putter, so I am pretty close to being all Ping.

Driver: Ping G400 (10.5*) w/ Alta Distanza shaft

Fairway woods: Callaway Mavrik Max 5-wood (18*), 7-wood (21*) and 11-wood (25*) with Even Flow Riptide 5.5 shafts

Hybrid: Ping G410 6H (30*)

Irons: Ping G710 (7-UW) with Recoil 80 F3 shafts

Wedges:  Cleveland CBX2 54* and 58* with Recoil 95 F3 shafts

Putter:  Bettinardi BB56

Ball: Snell MTB-Black (Optic Yellow)

In the last year, my views about Ping have changed dramatically! I never liked their veiny drivers or the cave in the irons hosels and I also never really cared for any of the ping staffers. However, with the drop of the G425, I realized they're starting to become a really cool looking brand! They dumbed the crown down just enough for me to like to look at it, the Blueprint irons are awesome looking, the Glide wedges are sweet looking, and they're becoming a brand I think is cool because of their ambassadors like Viktor Hovland, Finau, Champ, and Joaquin Neimann.

Does anyone else have strong feelings either positive or negative about Ping? I want to go hit, and potentially get fitted, for the blueprints or the i210s but I don't think I'm ready to put my Srixons in the garage

your opinion on the brand seems centered on the looks and the staff members who play them?  That couldn’t be more irrelevant to your game.

Go hit them in a fitting and form an actual opinion on their performance for you.  You’ll be much happier in the long run.

In the early 80’s I got a set of Eye2’s that I still have. Over the years I played TaylorMade, Mizuno, TM again, Mizuno again, and 3 more sets of Ping. I just ordered some G425’s and fully expect I will like them.

They’re not as pretty as the shiny forged sets I owned but for my swing they work.

🤣 I'm 100% with you on the FW woods... I cannot even bring myself to demo them. Love Ping, currently play their irons and wedges, used a Ping putter a LONG time ago but I have never owned one of their drivers/fairways/hybrids.

Y’all are missing out lol. I used to say the same thing but the g425 Max 3 wood this year is insane. Still very low spin for me and feels almost impossible to miss it. It’s the best 3 wood I’ve ever tried. At least demo it!

I have a full bag of PING clubs and love them...  I purchased a brand new set of steel ISI's around 1998 or so then got out of golf only to return last fall.  I replaced my TISI driver with a G410 and picked up an older i20 2 hybrid to check out along with a couple of G410 hybrids and a NOS set of S55's...  while I never really liked the appearance of the ISI irons they worked well for me.  But I have fallen in love with the S55's.  I am going to go against the grain here as I think the S55's are some of the best looking irons I have ever seen.

I love my S56s, having played Eye2 since 1988

My bag has always had at least something ping.  Since I upgraded R9, haven't and won't game a different brand of driver.  Don't think I'll be change irons, hell I still have the S55 they are indestructible.   Still in great shape.  I can always go back to those.

I’ve owned a lot of different Ping clubs in the past and really liked them.  My son is still using my old G20 driver and he loves it.  Since then, the woods they’ve come out with just are not my cup of tea.  I went so far as to buy a G425 hybrid this season, take it to the range, and find out I really don’t like it. I cleaned it up and thankfully the store where I bought it accepted it as an unused return.
All that said, I think the G425 irons are totally legit and would buy them in a minute except for the fact that my AP3 irons are very good.
in sum, I like Ping irons, not Ping woods.

I go back and forth to each end of the teeter-totter.  On the forgive side, Ping is in the bag, My exacting side prefers Mizuno blades.

Past exact were MP 5, tied my low round - previously held by MP 68.

Forgive list is a long one from I's G's S's  up to my current G710 as sig shows

When on I really like blades but I feel I am a bit more consistent with Pings.  they would have probably tied or lowered the record several times but for whatever putter was in the bag.

Can you enlighten us on the difference production costs between Ping and other companies? Ping quality is at least as good or better than anyone else out there.

I have been a Ping fan since 1986. That being said, the last set of irons I bought were Mizuno because they offered a shaft with no upcharge that would have been +$30 per club with Ping. Also, I liked the finish G30 irons and prior vs the current finish. It also looks strange to see a ferule on Ping irons. I still have a G400 Max driver.

I honestly think the G425 hybrids are the best part of the G425 lineup.  I've owned the driver, 3/5 wood and 4H.  Of course everyone has different tastes in clubs, but I love these hybrids.

Sorry, I did not mean that as a slight to Ping. I meant that when Ping was getting going they chose casting over forging for their clubs, and with it came the ability to more-cheaply (cost-effectively) produce their (for the time) radical designs.

Ping quality is fantastic, as my father's Zings, which he bought new in 1994 and still look new today after 25 years of use and abuse can attest.
