How is removing your shirt (or pants) on a pro tour OK?

I fully expected the usual suspects to post their "lighten up," "it must still be winter," "get off my lawn" responses. You are as predictable as the sun rising in the east. Especially Hawkeye.

What I have not heard is how it makes sense for the PGA Tour (among others) to require long pants but allow players to go shirtless or pantless whenever they want. I've also not heard a defense of these professionals who cannot bear to have some water or mud on their clothes.

I would also suggest they incur a slow play penalty for the 5+ minutes it undoubtedly takes them to do their strip tease and then dress again.

OMG, you sound like a nice person to play golf with.

How is this allowed on a pro tour? You are required to wear long pants but can remove your shirt and pants whenever you like. Ridiculous.

I think that we should all complain to the people in power to stop this disgusting habit, one that happens, at most, a few times a year...

Sebastian Cappelen removed his shirt at the Honda (2021) to hit a shot out the water. Henrik Stenson removed his shirt and pants in 2009 to hit a shot at Doral.

Could a player strip entirely naked if they didn't want to get mud on their underwear?

Another point I'd like to make: These guys get their clothes for free. It's OK to get some mud on your shirt. Throw it in the bin after your round if it's ruined. Your clothing sponsor will send you another.

You have to excuse these poor scandinavians. We up here have a kind of liberal views on sexual matters. You should come here, see some strip golf all over the place on the golf courses. Scandinavian sin.

It's not for them , it's for the ladies in attendance. Take it from MtlJeff, when you put in the work sculping that physique....It's borderline a crime not to show it off

I hardly leave the house without taking off my shirt and pants at some point. Grocery stores, malls, Target. People want to see this

It's clear that you made the decision to buy that pxg gear when you were contemplating it last year...😆

You get all your clothes for FREE . What is the big deal if you get some mud on your shirt or pants ?

If i make one serious answer in this thread ...it's this

I don't think it's at all that they are worried about getting mud on the shirt / getting it dirty. I think it's more just that if you're on like the 4th hole, it's uncomfortable to play the rest of your round with wet clothes.

Exactly.  And they may have places to go and people to see after the round.  Perhaps the issue that sets off some people is the media coverage when players strip down more than the actual stripping down.  Or there could be other reasons for the disdain but I'll leave that to others to speculate.

I get that ...but 90% of the time it results in them barely getting any mud /water on them . Wesley Bryan had like 2 or 3 holes left in his round .  I'm not offended by it nor do I care .. just think its kinda overdoing it .

So change into a new set of clothes. You don't think they have extra clothes in their bags? You could fit a weeks worth of clothes in one of those things.

It's very hypocritical that the tour who won't let players wear shorts because there is some weird old man hatred of mens calves/ have to "protect the image", but stripping down to your underwear is ok? It's just illogical and incongruent.

I don't know, full changes of clothes in your golf bag? I don't think it's a huge deal to strip down for shots like this which are very rare at the end of the day

I'm also fine with shorts

But as I've made clear in this thread, I'm aggresively pro male nudity

I hope you see the irony of complaining about someone else complaining about PGA Tour players stripping to their skivvies on the course.

I don't think it's a huge deal either. I just don't understand how the tour doesn't have a problem with this and openly promotes it, while still promoting this archaic shorts rule. They will put a video of the guy in his underwear on their youtube channel, but we can't see anyone's calves.

1 rare event with funny entertainment value vs. watching guys in shorts a majority of the time?

apples to oranges

The Tour might not have a huge problem with us seeing someone’s calves. Maybe they just think overall a product wearing pants is more appealing to viewers.
