Maybe I Just Like To Tinker

I'll be the first to admit I am a day trader with a bit of money ball mentality when it comes to golf equipment. I've had a great relationship for nearly 2 decades with a local shop and it makes it so easy to try different stuff, from new to nearly new to just plain used. (It's actually been over 2 decades, where does the time go - lol)

I've found nothing gives me greater satisfaction than taking a slightly neglected set and doing a refresh to make them shine.

Through it all I've also had my share of new shiny stiff too. I've had the opportunity to try so many different brands and styles over the years.

But it's the stalwarts that I always go back to when it comes to irons.

Today I spent the afternoon cleaning up a set of original AP2 3-9 and a Wilson Tour FG V2 PW I picked up this a.m. The AP2 were missing a PW and they had the Wilson as a single. New grips (no thanks to the guy who invented fiberglass backed 2 sided tape), tightened up the ferrules (no bent tips thank gawd) followed by 15 minutes with a Rubbermaid nylon power brush (that and a backscratcher are 1 and 1A on my list of favorite xmas gifts) and voila, a perfectly serviceable set of one my favorite irons of all time. They are rifle 5.5, same as my main set of J36 irons.

I really enjoyed this afternoon.

So I think I'm going to just ride this season out with 2 of my favorite irons of all time.

Unless I find a slightly neglected set of 680.mb's.

They had a set of the 2019 Epic Flash Star forged 7-SW with the 11 wood. Look like they had never been hit. Gotta admit for a brief minute I was doing the mental inventory of a potential trade package. For just a minute.

I then remembered my brief trial of the 2017 Epic Flash Pros.

That put an end to it.
