G400 w/ HZRDUS Yellow 76 @5.5.   10.5 turned down to 10*.  2.5 years. I’ve tried a couple of different shafts ( Yellow Smoke 60, Atmos Blue 60 TS), but this set up seems to be the one.

Best driver I’ve owned in a very long time.

That said, I think I’d like to get fit for something new this year, or at least compare head to head with a TSi3, Mavrik and a few others

Titleist 909, D2, 10.5 degree. Now 12 years young. I'd been thinking how much better would the latest technology be so went to the golf shop last weekend to get fitted for a new driver. Solid hour of hitting brackets of balls, 7 different new models, almost all the big name brands. The fitter's conclusion, "I can't improve on what you have, in fact, I can't even match what you have". So I spent all my money on another putter and new pants.

Thanks. Leftymatt24..I just recently retired and the guys at work bought the TXG fitting. They paid the extra and I’m actually getting fitted with Ian... Was I very overwhelming gift to say the least...

congrats on retirement! Enjoy the fitting - best golf I ever played was the first few months after my only fitting. Then I found new excuses and went back to normal!

I have had my PXG Gen1 0811X since November 2019. As much as I like looking at pretty new things coming out every year I have never hit more fairways than I am lately. At least once a week I spec out another driver online that I would consider. But it would be crazy for me to change up "just because" right now.

Besides, there'll be a new release cycle starting soon enough.

PXG 0211 12° driver with Project X Cypher shaft
Maltby KE4 TC 16° 4 wood w/Kuro Kage Black 60g shaft
Srixon Z355 22° 7 wood w/Miyazaki Jinsoku shaft
Maltby KE4 TC 19° and 22° 3 and 4 hybrids w/UST Proforce V2 Black shaft

Maltby KE4 TC 25° 5 hybrid with KuroKage Black shaft

Lazrus 27° 6 hybrid
PXG 0211DC irons 7-PW w/Project X Cypher graphite shafts

Cleveland CBX2 50° GW w/Rotex wedge flex shaft
Maltby M-Series+ 56° wedge w/UST Recoil 660 graphite shaft
Cleveland  Huntington Beach Soft Premier 10.5

I’ve been playing a G400max since the day they hit retail stores. I traded in an Epic under the 90 day playability (I’m one of the very few I know who hated that club) and have been very happy since.

Happy is a relative term though... like most internet golfers, I’ve tried others, looking for better.
I’m actually trying out an Epic Max right now, lol. Completely different feel than the 400max, and I’m liking that. The Ping is so dependable though, I’m reluctant to have anything else in my bag when I play a money game.

Tomorrow is just a fun round with not a lot of $$$ involved, so I’ll be giving the Epic Max a try. We shall see...😉

I have hit maybe a dozen range balls with the TSi3 10* head that I picked up a few months ago.  Might try to sneak away to the range tomorrow, but not likely going to be playing for another couple of weeks.  I have played the BB6X that is in it on and off for a number of years now, though going out on a limb by saying that it will be replaced by the Ventus Blue 6X I have coming.

Ehhhh.... I think I’d try another fitter.

I have to be honest, I find it hard to believe a good fitter can’t improve on the performance of a 12 year old driver.

Even an older player without a lot of SS would get some benefit with a lighter shaft.

Sure, blame the fitter, that is a more convenient explanation than the alternative. However, this precisely matches the less intense and varied testing I did myself a year ago with the newest Callaway product at a club that demo'd them - me, on the range with my monitor and marked balls hitting brackets of balls with the old one versus the two new ones.

If you can’t get anything to work better for you than a 12 year old driver, Congratulations. You have a heck of a driver there.
Most people would need a different weight or flex in their shaft after that amount of time.
The advancements in club head technology would also help most people, even if they just needed more loft as they got older.

You sir, are a unicorn, and I tip my cap.

Edit

I’m not trying to be snarky, just curious.... Are you at an age where your driver already had a senior shaft in it, and your swing speed has diminished to a point where “tech” or a fitting wouldn’t help your numbers?

I have been using a used Titleist TS2 head with Diamana BF 60TX shaft, both bought here after my Srixon 785 shaft exploded. So far, so good!  it does what it is supposed to do: go straight and a long way when I make a great swing.

I would probably have to be a scratch or plus level to even sniff the cost of a new driver.  At $26/round, I can play 20 rounds instead!  Or get 6 lessons.

You ask a reasonable question. In my case, the physical engine (ie me) is little changed throughout this period, still a smallish, wiry dude with an athletic lifestyle, a decent swing (fortunate to be helped at an early age by a good teacher) and an unchanged swing speed (100mph with driver) over the last decade despite a birth decade with a 5 in front. So the wheels haven't fallen off yet, touch wood.

Either I am a unicorn or there is something far more prosaic going on. And I strongly suspect the latter. That is, very many folk have made less than optimal choices in past club selections, or been less than optimally fitted previously or simply like buying golf clubs and are happy to drink the manufacturers' Kool Aid. It also seems patently clear that claims about improvements do not stand up to reality. We've all long suspected that, but my data is brutally stark.

I don't begrudge for a moment any golfer enjoying the process of buying new equipment and shelling out whatever the companies ask for what the golfer thinks may get them a bit closer to the Tiger Woods game, I really don't wish to shatter anyone's bubble. But it seems clear to me there are a lot of bubbles out there and a very large predatory industry invested in selling snake oil.

Edit: re-ordered paras.

^^^ Other than “...smallish, wiry dude...” I am in the exact same spot.  Have owned my driver 4-1/2 years and in that time have been on Trackman three times with good balls.  Current set-up is dead center in the ‘optimum’ zone for launch/spin windows for my swingspeed.  I’m okay with the look and very much like the feel.  It is literally not possible to improve until my SS changes dramatically.
