New Trend: music on the golf course

Had a first on Sunday...  Joined by 3 nice ladies age 61, 63,59.  They asked if I was ok with music, which I am, was curious to hear the playlist from the "older crowd" (I'm 54).

 

Wide playlist on the phone.  80's top 40, country, todays top 40.

 

Couldn't really hear it if about 30 yards away...

I may be in the minority but I don't mind music at all on the course and I actually prefer it. I actually don't even really mind people talking even while hitting. I have had a lot of people apologize and I always just say "No problem, doesn't bother me" which they seem surprised by.

 

I'd say people are fairly conscientious of their music overall. Sure, I can sometimes hear it a ways away but I don't really care. If that makes golf fun for them, all good by me, it is just background noise. Abrupt and loud noises like people screaming is quite a bit more startling than someones music as the music is consistent.

 

Just like any other discussion people will either be on one side or the other. For whatever reason people end up in Black or White extremes on this particular issue.

I played in a blind draw scramble year before last.  Got paired with a group (want to say it ended being 6 players total) that was unbearable.  Three of them would have been unbearable anyway due to the cussing and yelling and bickering (this was a mom, dad and son) but factor in the gangster rap (which is fine in the proper setting) and it was over the top.  The lady (not the mom, another in the group) was not digging it, with the swearing and n-word lyrics.  It really was one of the worst experiences I have ever had on the course and the music just took it to another level of bad and inappropriate behavior.

 

I don't care for music on the course but it is not going away.  Also not going away are the people who have it turned up high enough I can hear it from a hole or more away.  Either they don't care or are so self-absorbed they don't know they should care.

Played the other day and had to laugh at the dueling banjos at one point on the course. I don't like music, personally.. but a guy in my group had music in his cart. One particular hole the top floor condo had speakers on their deck over looking the green. As we got out to put another cart passed by also playing music. 

 

Best part, they're all playing classic rock.
