First round of the year today and 12 of 13 drives were straight pulls. Why??😕

Recommended Posts

First round of the year today in Massachusetts. Hit driver 13 times. 12 of them were dead pulls. Long, in play, but dead left. No shape to the ball. No draw. No hook. Dead straight and long, but all left. Why???? Maybe the ball was too forward in my stance? Releasing the club too early? It was so frustrating to see a piercing, long flight but dead left. At least it was consistent🙄😂

First round of the year...I wouldn't worry too much.

Your club path is out to in and your face is square to that club path

Moving the ball back a bit might help as you surmised.  But also check your shoulder alignment.  Mine drifted open last year until a pro noticed.  Closing them - which really just got me parallel to t

I think you've gotten every answer possible so far in this thread, but noone has seen your swing.

It could be any number of things, you need to post some video or get a quick lesson if you're that worried about it before you end up down a rabbit hole of swing fixes.

As another poster said, its the first round of the year. I wouldn't put too much stock into it.

Long line of left straight pull hitters came from Massachusetts, now they're in Florida living the fairway dream

I’ll be on my way there soon😂

I started out the same way this yr. The guy I play with noticed my ball to forward in my stance. I moved the ball back and it helped some. I checked my grip and my swing plan. I noticed I was coming over the top. Being older  my lack of being flexible wasn't there. Fourth round in I am hitting straight now and I have more flexibility.

Get some swings in.

Happens to me too.  In my case, my hips are frozen so my upper bod swivels around and knocks the ball straight left.  After a few shots i learn to speak to my lower body and get things in order. I never had early training so all technique is by 'mental organization' which slows down striking ability.

I don't know what your solution might be.

I had the same problem my first round out... for me it was exactly as @dmecca2said... out to in with a square club face (to impact)... decently hit balls, just dead pulls

to the left.

I had a back injury and am just getting back into golf... my shoulder mobility, and upper back are super tight right now.

im currently physically incapable of getting inside... working in mobility, but I’ll have to figure out how to make a pull work on the course in the short term.

Same. When my feet get too far apart, it locks my hips and I get all kinds of bad shots.

I just saw a short insta vid from a great teacher who said if you want to find the natural, most athletic width for your feet, just jump up off the ground and wherever your feet land is the right width for you.

That's a cool little trick. Gonna try that on my wife when she decides to attempt to pick up golf (again).

Really?? Huh. I’ve played sports my whole life. Football and baseball at the collegiate level. How have I never heard this??? Definitely trying it out tomorrow at the range. Let’s just hope the other patrons don’t call the cops and get the weird dude who keeps jumping up and down committed to the looney bin🤦🏻‍♂️😂😂

I’m absolutely taking a guess here, but I would think the most comparable foot width would be stepping in to bat. If you’re playing infield you’re prioritizing lateral movement. If you’re playing o-line you’re prioritizing leverage and stability. Only in batting and the golf swing are you prioritizing rotational force.

I had the same problem. My pro diagnosed the cause of pulling the ball as the same as slicing it. Maybe get a lesson. Impossible to diagnose what you're doing over an internet forum.

Me too. I still am over the top, if I close the club face its a pull if I open it its a slice.
