Stock T100S Gap vs 48/50 SM8

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! My current wedge set up is 44 and 48 T100s with a 54 and 60 SM8. I have noticed that the face of the 48 T100s is a bit hot when it comes to bump and run shots. I am contemplating swapping that out for a SM8. My question is should I just go 48 to match the set or would it be better to go 50? I did the Vokey Wedge Selector Tool and it picked 50 54 60 based off my 44 PW loft. I was also thinking of getting a 48 and bending it to 49 to maintain a 5 degree gap with my wedges. There are so many variables in play just wanted to get some guidance from the WRX Fam! Thank you to everyone in advance for your input!

I played a set of Titleist DCI 990 irons for more than a decade and they had a 44.5 degree 9-iron. For all but the first year or so of that time I played Vokey wedges at 50, 54 (bent to 55) and 60 and thought it was an ideal setup.

Ill try to get on a monitor tomorrow and test it out! Should it be 9 iron to 60 or just the 4 wedges?

I play T100S as well, mine are bent 2* weak through the set, but I ran into the same issue with the set wedge around the greens. I loved it for full and partial shots, but anything I tried to do with it around the green didn't work out the way I wanted. I switched up my approach to how I play around the greens with the new club that I'm at and I'm hitting a lot more lower lofted, running shots around the green than ever before and went to the SM8 in the PW and GW for this season. It's been working very well for me so far.

If you're asking about bump and run shots and hotness of the face, hitting full shots with the t100s gap vs full shots with the 48 or 50 vokey isn't going to tell you much. At least on full shots the t100s 48 vs the vokey 48 and 50 things look pretty similar. Spin and carry are all but equal. I'm sure you don't need someone to point that out - it's right in the data.

You're going to have to take those clubs to a short game area and see what you like from 50 yards and in for your bump and runs.

Just my observation.

Some flavor of the month driver.
Some driving iron for Links courses.

A hybrid to save my bad shots.
Titleist blades when I feel lucky otherwise something more forgiving.
A Vokey wedge or 2.
I hate every one of my 17 putters.
