What do you expect ? DSG is a sporting goods store that happens to have golf equipment.

I'd hardly expect any cooperation or knowledgeable salespeople there.

Agreed. I don't expect much from GSC for big ticket golf items. I will go there for accessories and clothes but not much else.

The Myrtle Beach, SC Golf Galaxy attached to the DSG just had 5 new trackman units installed.  I was told all stores were converting.  I was doing the electrical install and spoke to some corporate heads about it.

DSG is not a place to go for much of anything.  Find a nearby demo day or take a trip to a golf store and try stuff out.  DSG employees dont give a darn about what they sell or "expertise" in the market.  Most are young kids who are covering 3 different areas and dont care to learn more about the items they are selling.

Haven't been to MB for some time. Loved Golf Dimensions in MB. Their store off of 501 had a great selection of used gear. Preferred Golf Dimensions to the Martins stores before they became the PGA Tour Superstores.

Instead of huffing and puffing you could have asked for a manager so they could find the golf person to help you out.

You could do this, but after they laid-off every PGA Member that ran their shops in over 550 stores in 2014, they went to automatic scheduling, where the schedule is created programmatically, based on past sales on an hourly basis. So basically what happens is, you get coverage in these areas from around 10-5 maybe 10-6, and then there will be no one in the department until the store closes (9pm) and an associate from say the footwear department, will have to cover if there is a need in the golf department.

I think Ed Stack initially was trying to create something pretty cool by having PGA members run their shops. The market crash in 2008 didn't help. Then fittings and launch monitors started to become the standard, yet DKS buys so much inventory in past year models, or "made-for-DKS" models, that it's hard to fit anyone into them. Meaning your choices are relatively small, couple of regs/stiffs lying around and no other shafts to use and try. Plus you couldn't order past year models custom, you just get what you get. I remember in 2007 we had the R540 as a Black Friday deal at $99 and they are overfilling this barrel in the main aisle. You could fit for the ones you had, but not that head with another shaft.

Then in the early 2010's you started getting more vendors in there with some fitting options, but you could maybe properly fit for one vendor (we had Taylormade), but if I had a guy who wanted Cobra or Adams, it was a guessing game with the shaft in those vendors.

Irons were a bigger nightmare as they always ran deals with a 2 year old model being half off, and we had like 20 sets in house and people wanted to be fit for them, but you couldn't order them custom. So you go through the fitting process and and adjustments are done in house (length, lie, grips) all at extra cost. So a set that was $499, is now like $650 and it's got extensions in the shafts and potential swing weight issues. At this point, just get the new model which around that time was like $700-$800. People like a good deal and add in all the "services" that DKS offers and it's a tough ball to juggle.

Complaining about golf and DSG is like sending your sirloin back at Denny's for not being the right temperature.

I've not been a huge fan since they grandstanded against guns a while back. Kind of hard to be in the sporting goods business if you eliminate outdoor sports like hunting and fishing.

And they still own Field and Stream and have stores open that sell firearms, but yeah, go DSG, way to make a stand! SMH

That's what you get when you pay people $9/hour. You get what you pay for.

I was in a DSG one night while my wife was looking for something. I had about 15 minutes to kill. Went over to the hitting bay and a guy got me set up to hit a few different 7 irons. I wasn’t necessarily in the market for new irons, but this is how sales are made...you get something in your hands that you just can’t say “no” to.

Anyway, I hit about 10 balls with 3 different 7 irons, found one I kinda liked and so tried to dial it in a bit. I’m guessing I hit another 15 balls with that club. Right at this time, an older man who worked there walked in, told me that I’ve hit at least 100 balls in there and this isn’t a driving range, and would I kindly leave so that others could use the bay (literally no-one was in the golf section of the store and no-one was waiting).

I got so mad. I told him I’d hit 50 balls max trying out these three 7 irons, and I had started liking one of them when he so rudely accused me of using them as a driving range. And oh, by the way sir, I’m a member of a nice club just down the road where I can hit all of the balls I want. But you can forget me buying these irons here today, or any other day for that matter. I set the club down and walked out. Haven’t bought a golf club from DSG since.
