P770s , Forged TECs...like, what are these called?

They aren't cavity backs, because they have no cavities. But they aren't blades either, because they are just too big to be called blades. 

 

However, Blades vs Cavities is a big thing here where you have to pick a side. Kinda like being in prison and having to join a gang

 

So, if you play a set like this....Which gang are you in?

 

I just need to know who i'm supposed to shiv in the showers.

I guess it depends on how deep you go into classifications. Because "Cavity Back" is very wide ranging. You have players cavities, GIs and SGIs...all of which are cavity backs

I don't think so. They generally have stronger lofts, hollow body or welded on thin faces, multi-material construction, etc. Blades are still just blades, a hunk of metal.

I think it breaks down like this, and I'm going to use Taylormade and Titleist as example companies, but all of them have these categories:

 

620MB/P7MB = Blade

620MC/P7MC = Tour Cavity

T100/P770 = Players Cavity

T200/P790 = Players Distance

T300/SIM = GI

T400/SIM Max = SGI

 

Something like that.

In a sense I suppose you're right. But there's a difference between a internal cavity filled with the fastest of foams, and a cavity back with a open external cavity.

CG/MOI wise, almost no difference. The foam is more for sound/feel than anything else

For fickle golfers who want the help of a techy cavity back with the look of a blade. They are their own category just because of how they are constructed, but they dont perform fundamentally different than a cavity back.
