What kicked your Spider out of the bag?

My previous Newport kicked the spider out the bag after five rounds. I struggled with the weight on longer putts and seemed to either be long or short by some margin. Gone back to my Newport and all my lag putts are tap ins whilst my mid range putts are still going in.

 

The spider X isn’t a bad putter at all, I liked the feel and look, but it just isn’t for me.

Black Spider Tour owner, messed with original Toulon Atlanta, bought a copper Spider X, and just ordered a custom Spider SR. The SR is point and shoot and rolls it beautifully. Cant wait to get this thing.

I picked up a Tour Black Itsy Bitsy because I liked my newer Tour Black so much.  The Itsy Bitsy doesn't look to setup the same and the sound is different.  Higher pitch and not as solid sounding.  Anyone experience the same thing?

Making such a broad spectrum and blanket statement as it's not good for slower greens or "then don't be surprised if it's more difficult to make putts outside 15 feet because putts lack speed" isn't correct because apparently it works for a lot of people, but not everyone.

 

But what am I talking about, this is WRX. If it doesn't work then it's obviously not me, it's the equipment. Just buy more.

I also have difficulty with the Spider family on slow greens.  I found the Ping PLD Prime Tyne was a good fit for me on slow greens.  

I guess with the above logic, there could only be one putter design and we could all get over picking what looks and feels best to us.  I don't have any idea why so many different putter models are played on the tours ;-).  Tour players are probably even better than a 7HC here on WRX, so all should be able to use the same design to the highest level.

Scotty 5.5.  My last round with the Spider was a 69, but had zero confidence with it inside 10'. Sight lines were just very busy on the putter head.  The Scotty lines up way better.  First round with the Scotty was a stress free 70.

Sik Pro c. The putter has a very nice roll, and I am not struggling with hitting the ball all over the face so I don't care my putter is mallet or blade, but the sik putter does put a very consistent roll on the ball. I have my sik putter bent to a 4 degree loft and 74 degree of lie with 35.5" length, I think I'm gonna stick with this setup for a while now.

TP Patina DuPage knocked my spider out the bag. Sightlines just fit my eye better and the face balanced was better than the partial toe weighting of the spider.

Sik DW with the slant neck - lines up easily and puts a great roll on the ball. Im finding distance control much easier with the Sik than spider x

A Toulon Columbus replaced my TM Spyder Pro mid shaft model. I find the Toulon more accurate at closer distances. I did not have problems at longer distances with it.

Got it March 2 and played a tournament round with the lamkin shrink fit grip. That grip was too heavy. Since changing the grip I've had 2 other tournament round. 28 and 30 putts on 13 and 15 greens, respectively. Other practice rounds have been under 30 putts. Just making everything inside 10 feet and dropping the occasional 15-25 footer.

Love my Spider X(s) - But interestingly, I love the look of my TP Soto Patina as well and it's currently in the bag (Perhaps temporarily). My thing has generally been, I love the look of a blade but generally my swing is likely best suited to a mallet better...

 

When I'm in top flight, and putting is natural and free flowing the blade works amazing to me, but inevitably I'll enter a rougher patch and start to think a bit too much and Spideys back in the bag.

 

My Soto is customized perfectly for me, and I do love it (3.0 degrees loft, 34.25", 20g weights and GP TM Tour Ghost Grip - Funny that I really like SuperStroke GT grips on my Spiders, but love the traditional feel of the standard grip on a blade, can't stand larger grips on a blade to be direct)...

 

Also just got the new TM spring headcover that looks awesome LOL.

Had a spider x copper... couldnt line it up or have distance control. So i  returned it for a 2018 scotty newport2.... tottaly better and different.

Scotty Phantom X 5.5. I make more longer longer putts than with the Spider. I think however that the main reason is that I prefer the grip on the Scotty… Could have saved 450 € in changing the grip on the TM….

I changed the grip on my spider X to something similar to my scotty’s and it made no difference at all. Still had no distance control with this thing. Minute I put my Scotty back in the bag I go back to putting well.

After experiencing the Axis 1 Rose my Spiders were sent packing. If you haven’t tried an Axis 1 do yourself a favor and give it a roll.
