The embarrassment of buying your old set back.

The first time I did it I thought it was weird...

Did a driver swap... we each played 1 round... and agreed to swap back

It's happened more times than I like to admit since then

I've never bought back a set because I usually sell on ebay. But a couple months later I have bought a new set of the same set I sold. I've done this with a set of irons and a driver or two.

Callaway mavrik max 3 & 5 wood

I've purchased a lot of the same clubs but never once asked for anything I've sold back.  I did, however, sell back a JAS WiTi Piper to a member here.  Best decision we both made...

I was in my local Golf Galaxy a few months back and fell in love with a used, but in nearly perfect condition, Ping Ketsch.  It even had the grip I love.

I was having the “do I really need this” discussion with myself when I realized  I was the person who had traded it in.  No, I didn’t buy it back, but I wanted to.

Done this... With a Ketsch Vault 2.0 heavy, red dot and Pistol GT 1.0. Best Summer of putting in a few years. Sold it over Winter and since have had: Heppler Ketsch, TM Spider, ER5, Mini Gunboat and Cleveland HB SOFT 14. It's kinda gross but kinda cathartic just to write this and see it. I share because I care. #hangupthehoing #stoptheflips

I just did it yesterday...😂. Not exactly buying the same set back, but trying to return the magic of a set I absolutely loved and played my best good with.

Well, I did the swap this morning. My old set back from the guy I sold them to in exchange for my new set (plus cash).

Then I went straight out and played.

I was still a bit hooky with the long irons, but back to dead straight with the short irons.

First time in weeks I've had a birdie from a good iron shot.

Distance was also better with the old set, presumably because I hit the sweet spot more often.

Since I am a long-time WRXer I fully intend to flirt with other clubs. Maybe even the same Gen3s. But for me, anyway, old beats new.

Welcome back to Papa!

Years ago I sold a Cobra driver that I loved to a friend after buying the new model Cobra driver. I always hit the one I sold with a nice baby draw. Soon realizing I lost my baby draw with the new driver I tried to trade my new driver for my old one back but my friend wouldn't trade me. I chose to buy another driver in the model I had sold with the same specs as my previous driver. I couldn't hit that driver with a baby draw either. Thinking my swing was off my friend let me try my old driver and my baby draw was there. He didn't hit a draw with it but I sure did. There was nothing I could do to get that driver back from him. He doesn't play that much anymore and I have since moved on from it. He still plays that driver when he plays and it's quite a bit old now.

Ugh

So I've done this a bunch for Drivers.

Never actually gone back and bought a club I owned, but same model

I would have thought this to be true for putter as well (as this is where I'd be more likely to buy one of my own clubs back), but I don't think I've done this yet (probably just forget that I did honestly)?  I have owned a couple of the same model before, so I have technically bought the same putter again.  I did also go through a big sell off of a lot of my stuff recently though, I can see wanting to bring back some putters that I sold off.

have done it with clubs, motorcycles, and bass guitars. Not with wives though. I'm dumb but not stupid...

I’ve never bought any of my clubs back. Once they’re gone they’re gone. If the new one doesn’t work after a period of time, it gets changed.

However, I’m not as quick to let the old clubs go now after selling my Newport 2 a few years back and regretting it. So if I think I MAY use a club in future it goes into the spares bag.

A few months ago the thought of a "spare bag" was funny to me until I started messing with my clubs. Now I am not selling my old set because my "new" set is waiting for shafts to arrive on Monday and I would like to play today. Had I sold my "old" clubs, I wouldn't have anything to play with. 🤣

I will sell them once I have a proper "backup set".

I've never managed to buy back the exact same club/set, but I have bought so many duplicates it's sickening. There are some clubs I still think about and wonder where they went to. My buddy has a full set I sold him 6 or 7 years ago, and every time we play I still look at them and considering buying them back even though I know they're not even close to as good for my game as my set now

Never the same set. I  did recently buy a set of Rac Lt's for backup as I loved them many moons ago and found a good conditioned set for a great price. I've only successfully bought back my own club once. A John Byron that I sold to a friend during hard times. Traded a set of irons to get it back and it took me a month to return it to its former glory as he'd turned it into a belly putter and changed the paint fill to a kelly green from it's original white. FWIW, green is NOT a good match with copper, and I will never sell that putter again.

I’ve done it with a driver once. Traded in my G30 LST for the original M1. I used it for 2 rounds and absolutely hated it. I went back to the shop, found my old G30 on the used rack and traded in the M1. I have also done this with a RBZ Stage 2 Tour 3 Wood. Best 3 wood I’ve ever owned. Come to think of it, I wish I still had that 3 wood now. I would love to have it back now.

I can't count how many sets of Ping Eye 2+'s I've owned.  So many.  I love the 3-7 irons, but can't stand the massive heads on the short irons.  But next time I'll like them better, right??!!

Oh, and I'm in discussions about going back to some Mizuno 900 forged irons as I type this.  Yep.

I completely get this.  I can't even count the number of ISIs, Eye2s, Zing2s, i3s, G2s, G5s, and G10s (and XGs) I've owned.  I'm glad I didn't keep track because I'd probably want to strangle myself...

I can tell you this- if the Eye 2+'s went from massive offset shovels down to a reasonable PW with half the offset they actually have, I would still be playing some BeCu's and never look at anything again!
