Best Place To Buy Used Tour Balls?

Recommended Posts

G'Day everyone,

Great time of the year for a Canadian to be talking about this topic!

I was wondering what everyones "go-to" site has been for used tour balls these days. I always like to have minty used balls for playing with the buddies and new balls for competition rounds. So I only go through about 2 dozen new balls a year, and the rest are used in mint condition. This is a small compromise to me when most sites you can order all the same year/model ball. I can order 2019 Used Prov1 and also find new 2019 Prov1 - so that I am playing the same ball throughout the entire year and I am used to every nuance of that ball without surprises come tournament time.

How about you also tell me what Tour ball you are using this year and give a few reasons as to why!
I'll go first:

I will LIKELY play Prov1 this year. I have used it for many years and I find that it gives me a slight advantage when it comes to mid-long iron descent angle. I also find this ball extremely consistent in wind conditions, which I have to deal with virtually every round having 10-15mph wind (~30kmh). I play a firm and fast course, where short game control is very important. So I opt for the better control of Prov1 around the greens as opposed to the x.

Last year I tried the Bridgestone Tour BXS for a bit and loved the control greenside, and flighted wedges. I also struggled with mid-long iron height with this ball. Everything seemed to come out lower. My main problem I had with the BXS was hitting my driver literally 15 yards shorter than with the prov1. It was a spinny marshmallow off the tee. However, I felt like I could get up and down from basically everywhere with it.

Thanks fellas,

MFJ

I play Pro V1s but I'm not on Tour, so they are just golf balls to me.

I do the 4 for 3 every year.  Used to buy Titleists that were used to put in my shag bag, but over time I've just filled it with my own balls once they get scuffed, etc.  I like teeing up new golf balls, rarely had a new ball to use when I was a kid, had to find 'em --- been buying new for play since HS when I felt I could afford them.

My experience has been that LostGolfBalls.com was probably the best of the options out there. With other sellers you have to be careful because I think there's a difference between "used" and "refurbished" or "recycled". I bought recycled from a couple different sellers, and they were terrible. It seemed like they just painted the ball, and re-stamped the logo on them. After only a few hits they did not hold up well.

Titleist ProV1x
Titleist 915 D2

Callaway Maverik 3W
TaylorMade RocketBallz Stage 2 3H

Callaway Apex '14 3-iron
Callaway Apex Black '22 irons 5-AW
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 5.5
Callaway Jaws (60, 54)

Same. I’ve purchased several ‘mint’ dozens of Pro Vs from them. Most are indistinguishable from brand new ones. Some have logos, so if that bothers you steer clear. Once they accidentally included a ‘practice’ Pro V with a dozen and they sent me an entire dozen free. I was impressed. They now regularly send me coupons for an additional 10% off. Can’t beat $101 for 4 dozen mint Pro V1s.

Took me longer than I'd like to admit the topic is used golf balls.   I blame Covid.  I thought Mr. Jones was trying to purchase used golf balls there used by pros on tour.  If you buy used golf balls you can usually get same year ProV1 and specify regular or x.  Other balls, you have to watch or you'll get a mix of years and x and not-x.

I have enough golf balls to last me the year.  Maybe two.

The variance in my swing makes any nuances from one golf ball to another insignificant.
