Northeast Transplant to Chicagoland - Help me find a club!!!

I am very interested in Ruth Lake, Edgewood Valley and Chicago Highlands Club. The downstroke for Highlands is $150K though. So I’m leaning away from it. Edgewood is rumored to be increasing to $85K next year. I’m playing at Edgewood Thursday of next week.

Yeah, Highlands is pricey. Any idea what the fee for Ruth Lake is? They won’t give that info over the phone.

You'll need a member to sponsor/ invite you into the club before they'll give that up.

Rumor mill suggests $85K. Could be stagnant though - waiting on a contact at work to connect me with a member there.

No mention of Medinah? Isn’t that one of the better ones in Chicago? Is it too far from downtown, too expensive or too many members? Also does anyone know if Beverly on a waitlist? When you go to their website they don’t even offer any membership information.

Medinah misses the majority of OP's requirements, and to your questions yes to all three. Beverly has a healthy wait list right now.

I think just about every club in the Chicagoland area is on a waitlist right now. I have yet to find one that doesn’t (looking in the western suburbs).

We're new to the Western suburbs, in Hinsdale.  Looking for a younger, family oriented club.  Can anyone share the initiation fees/dues for Ruth Lake, Hinsdale Golf Club and Chicago Highlands?

Just moved to Hinsdale and was looking at Ruth Lake & Hinsdale Golf. Hinsdale golf seems pretty "stuffy" nice course though, not sure on waiting list there, 75k down. Ruth Lake has a fun course, family friendly, has a current waiting list, 85k down. Would be curious to hear where people end up!

Everyone here (except for one poster) seems to be sleeping on Riverside GC. Great value, incredible proximity to OP's homebase and easily accessible from the loop. Really sweet, challenging Langford course - kind of a hidden gem among the Chicagoland CCs.

Does anyone have any comments about Ravinia Green in Riverwoods?  Any other similarly priced clubs in that area?

Highlands is high, but Highlands is also refundable, unlike other Chicago clubs I'm aware of.  Not quite apples to apples.

I don't have current numbers on Ruth but they were up there with Edgewood - Ruth also requires an invitation from a member to join, at least when I checked a few years back.

Know it very well from growing up on the course, caddying there and just recently playing there last summer.     It's not really a CC these days as they open it up to outings quite often.  It's dirt cheap, the initiation was 10k last summer.   But the course is brutally tight.  They removed a bunch of trees and could easily remove 1000 more and still have lots of trees out there.

 

Not really the course you want to play every day unless you like really tight courses.

 

And here's the kicker.  Because it's so cheap they are loaded up on members and you have to sign up for weekend time slots at least a couple weeks out and there's a good chance you might not get on.

 

I would imagine that RG would work for you if you live close by and are retired and can play all week long.  I wouldn't expect quick fun rounds on the weekend out there.

Thanks for the info on Ravinia!  Has anyone played Rolling Green in Arlington Hts?  How’s the course?
