What % of your vehicle’s value do you have in your 14 club golf bag?

Difficult question depending on the method of valuation.

 

My car isn't worth anything, but it's also very hard to replace as Mercedes hasn't sold a stick shift in the States for 11 years.

 

My Artisan putter wouldn't sell for anything because it's so customized.

 

Maybe 200%? $1k Car and $2k bag.

my club % value probably 5-6%  would have been over 10 % with the prior car.

I’m lucky enough to have some friends in the golf industry so I don’t pay a lot for any of my clubs.  That, in addition to my Jaguar F-Pace, gives me a pretty low percentage...2.1%

I try to stretch my dollar buying used cars and clubs. Plus, I'm a club ho that frequents the used bins and thrift shops. So my percentage is pretty low.

I am in the same boat.. let's say my usual car and usual bag.. I'd say about 10%... only because I bought pretty much all my clubs 2nd hand in great condition and at really great prices.

KBB private party value on my 08 Vibe is $4400 which surprised me.  My bag = $600.....what I paid for every club in my bag.

Rough estimate of my bag - $1,380. A bit generous in a few places, probably.

 

KBB of a 2014 Mazda 3 with 70k miles and a pretty ugly scratch that I've never bothered to get fixed - $7,000.

 

So... about 20%! No idea what to make of that. I've been meaning to get a new car but haven't gotten around to it because my current car is paid off, runs fine, and is cheaper to insure. Maybe now I can set a plan: once my clubs reach 50% of my car's value, or it breaks down, I'll buy a new car.

My pov is a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.  Only vehicle I've ever owned that I could sell for more today than I paid for it in 2005.  

 

Value of my bag vs Jeep in today's resale market 3%.

Great thread. Toyota Highlander is probably $15k and bag is $1k -- but my driver is an old TaylorMade RBZ that I cannot knock out of the bag for anything, and I've never been able to find the exact same club in a backup and I likely won't now. So if the car gets jacked and someone finds me crying on the street -- it's because that driver is gone.

The TJ Unlimited Rubicons were made in 2005 and 2006, and only a little more than 12,000 were produced (pretty rare).  Some folks considered the TJ Unlimited to be the best Jeep made ever.

The prices for the TJ Unlimiteds (and all TJs) have increased over the past few years, and really spiked  like other used cars prices during covid.  I bought a second Wrangler last May, a 2005 Rubicon for my 16 year old daughter to drive (she loves Wranglers like her Dad, which makes me proud).  It had 39,000 miles on it and was well maintained.  I felt like I was overpaying at the time, but if I was shopping for the same model and mileage now, I'd have to spend another $5k to get one.

I paid $10K for my 97 GMC Z71. My bag costs about $1800, so 18% on what I paid. What both are worth? Truck holds up better, so maybe under 10%. Now the M3, also 1997, worth more than what I paid 13 years ago, under 5% but it's priceless to me.

This is funny as this literally came up as I was trading my car in. 

 

2011 Honda CRZ. (Think Hybrid CRX). 70K miles, beaten paint, a few warning lights and a badly slipping clutch. My bag does not fit in the back, so they're on my front seat. I test drive as the sales manager takes my car out. 

Bag: Ping i500s, ping driver, ping hybrid, Bettinardi putter, RBZ 3W, and a few newer DTC wedges. 

 

We get back from our test drives and the sales manager approaches me. Says he has 3 questions. Do I have oil change records, why do I have an ABS warning light, and how do I own that car and those clubs? I flat out asked, "Is the bag worth more than the car?" (I was expecting a $2500 offer and would fight for $3K). I did wind up getting $5K for a trade and didn't argue since he must not have noticed the clutch and the duct taped antenna.

I just dropped a 327 w/an Edelbrock intake, Crower cam,  and a Holley 850 CFM double pump carb straight into my stand bag and drive that to the course.  F***er has some serious lope to it.

Depends on the day. If I'm driving my daily (2007 Saturn Ion) then my clubs are worth more than the car by a bit. If I'm feeling fancy and driving my X5M then I could build a few more bags and still not be at 50% of the value.

This is in Canadian Pesos as I'm too lazy to convert everything to Freedom Franks. 

 

2019 F-150 I think I paid like 45k, was worth new like 62k, talk about a deal.

 

Clubs um let's say not including my putter hoing probably 3.5k or 4k. 

 

So 8% or so give or take a few percent.
