Your 7 iron distance and shaft

160 is always a comfortable number with my 7. But since I'm in Canada, that number fluctuates. 155 in the cold of spring, 160 for about a month after that, and then 165 in the summer heat. It's warmed up by about 15 degrees (~27 for our friends to the South) here in the last week and, assuming a dialled swing, that pretty well represents a club of yardage gain already.

Titleist ZM with PX 5.5's. 35 degrees of loft.

Recently upgraded to T100s with Modus 105s after overthinking fitting results for...years. My first "new" set of irons after 28 years of loving this game. While I love playing blades, the reality is I am not getting the results I need out of my longer irons. And I heard somewhere that the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem...

Lol at some of these numbers.  I'm always amazed at how many 120+ mph people post here....

Me:  7 iron, 32deg(G15 irons), 165 yard carry.  For reference my driver speed is 108mph and I play to an 8 index.

I try to not respond as I am overall not concerned with how far someone hits the ball but when the question was asked I answered to myself and then proceeded to read the responses.  I know for fact I am a 120 mph or better  driver swing speed player left handed and I hit my 34* Cleveland 588 Altitude and my 34* Miura CB average carry of 175 yards everyday all day.  I will admit I am shocked at how many people hit 175 and 185 yard 7 irons.  I was thinking to myself "well damn everyone on the forum hits it further than me" and the fact is that I run into very few on the course that actually do on any given drive, and almost none that hit it further on average!! My right hand driver swing speed is 104 and my 7 iron goes 150 yards so I am blown away by all these high stock 7 iron yardages I must admit !! Nevertheless I am off to the weight room to get my life right !!

This is exactly where I am at. 108 mph on the driver for about 265 carry, 160-165 on the 7 iron. 7 iron is an Apex Pro 19 double dot, which is a 34 degree lofted club. It launches and spins a little more than I'd like; with a reshaft, it'll probably be a 165-170 club.

I hit the P790ti 7 iron (28.5) awhile back. Nearly 200 yards carry. Even the normal 790 (30.5) was going around 190. But I don't need/want that kind of stupid distance out of a 7 iron.

My 7 iron is 35°, so we are in line.  I find the strong lofted irons very confusing.   I don't get enough spin or trajectory out of them.

Not to mention the gapping issues at the bottom of the bag. If the P790 (or whatever) has a PW that carries 150, that suggests I'd need four wedges (for me, something like AW=130, 50=115, 56=100, 60=85).

In hot weather with no wind, I carry my 30 degree 7 iron 150 yards, sometime a smidge longer according to the launch monitor.  However, that is with perfect contact.  On the course, I expect to carry it 145 yards.  In the winter, I play the 7 iron as 135 carry.  PXG 0211 irons with adjusted lofts.  Accra regular flex graphite.  I've always been a short hitter.  Interestingly, when I first started playing 35 years ago, my 150 club was my 5 iron which had about 32 degrees of loft (Wilson FG17).  That tells me that I wasn't much faster at 39 years old than I am at 64 years old, although the graphite shaft and modern ball undoubtedly add some distance.

Callaway Diablo Edge 33*, Aldila Proto VS 100 stiff, soft stepped - 145-150 yards.

How much distance difference do you guys really see from different shafts? A 5 yard gain isn't worth the investment to me unless I can find certain shafts. I have the Aldila Rip Tour 90 in my wedges and love the feel of that shaft, but they are hard to find.

What is your swing speed ? Just curious, because om waiting on my Taylormade 770 with the same shafts, and starting to have doutbs, if they might be to heavy afterall

About 92mph club head avg speed but I do love heavy shaft for tempo. I think the shaft is great it have a lot of feel to it compare to other shaft in that weight range.

About 180 carry with whatever iron set I'm using. I have G25 with Tour V 120 X, MP 30 with S300, and Zing BeCu with AMT Tour White. They all go about the same distance, but trajectory is different from one another. Surprisingly, I get the lowest ball flight from the Zings.

About the same as me then. Im using Nippon 105 x-flex currently, but loved the feeling of a very heavy shaft. My swing speed actully increased a bit when i got fit for it, even though its 18 grams heavier, then what i currently use, even though it felt like i had the same swing
Hopefully it will be the correct fit, when i finally get them. 4 months delivery time....

I've been around Golfwrx for quite some time.  There are a lot of better skilled golfers that post here.  Answering some questions honestly, may lead to some people feeling inadequate.  Given many people play jacked irons, my traditionally lofted cover distance has no comparable value to people that play jacked lofts.   Plus my "S" flex shafts play stronger than flex.  It's like comparing apples to oranges to figure what a melon tastes like.

@mizunotpz Do you have Ping retrospect lofts on i210 irons?  If so, they would then be comparable to the lofts of my MBs, otherwise comparing our club specs and distance doesn't make sense.   If I jacked my 7i 2-3', it would, for sure, be longer.
