Proj x LZ extending and thoughts?

Long time lurker here. I have an order into mizuno for a set of mp20s. I currently play the mp14s. Several sets over the years of 14s. and have them shafted with the older precision rifles in 5.5 I believe. I thought they were 6.0 but we did a frequency test and they're closer to 5.5 but they are extended a bit. I didn't like the new proj x rifles when testing them, they didn't feel good. But i liked the feel of the Lz's. I do hit the ball on a nice flight not super high but not a low ball hitter by any means and i carry it far but I'm low spin. Avg 7 iron carry distance here in utah is around 195 yards for me.  For the order, we went with 6.5 LZ's but soft stepping them, but they're going to be 5/8th's of an inch extended. Now normally I assume extending makes them more flexible, is this the case with the LZ? I've also ordered them with the mp14 lofts, so 2 degrees weaker loft. I do forward press a little thru impact. I'm now worried I may hit these things too high. I'm tempted to try and edit the order to skip the soft stepping and maybe only weaken the loft by a degree. I'm sure I'm really over thinking but with these long wait times for orders, it leaves time for doubt to creep in. Appreciate any info for those that play the LZ.

Guessing at specs like you have done is a recipe for disappointment, especially when soft-stepping and extending, and setting lofts equal to your MP14s.  Compared to my 620 series heads, MP20 heads are 1' strong throughout the set, while MP14s are 1' weaker than my 620 MBs.  PX LZ shafts have an unusual bend profile too, and mid-trajectory.

Can't say factually, but lengthening shafts almost an 1" may influence the unique bend profile of LZ.  How much and whether you will notice it is yet to be determined.

I suggest ordering the clubs with stock specs, and shafts lengthened but skip soft-stepping.  Once you soft-step, it costs to go backward, either with plugs or new shafts.  See how you like the clubs first, then if all is good, make one change at a time to insure the change works, then the next change.

Appreciate the info from you both. I have a non traditional swing. Stronger grip, I dip on the back swing and stand up more thru impact. That's kinda how I get my ball height and distance. But with that stronger grip and a bit of a forward press, I'm assuming that's why I don't have really high spin rates. Hitting my mp14 6 iron on my buddies launch monitor on a cold day the begining of the year I was around 5450 ball spin, 128 ball speed. I'm assuming it would've been higher on a warmer day, not bundled up.  When I was fitted with the mp20,  I believe I was around 5300-5400 ball spin in the 6.5 lz but that 6 iron would've been 2 degrees stronger. Just For reference, My driver ball speed is mid to upper 160s, I play an 8 degree sim max in a diamana 60 s. I believe it's mid launch, I get around 2400ish ball spin. For fairway woods reference, I am hitting the new epic speed 5 wood, in a 70 gram shaft, 6.0 flex, mid launch. 3.2 torque? I think that's what that 3.2 number is. I hit that on a nice flight, not way high but I'm able to step on it and carry it far.  I am just really now getting back into golf this past season after a 14 year lay off from tourny golf. So it's been a sharp learning curve for me with shaft technology and launch data. I'm sure that was all way more info than you wanted. Appreciate the info from you both. The order was placed 3/2, so perhaps there's time to amend it so I can tweak if need be from a standard setup.

I'd be more worried about going from a 5.5 to a 6.5 personally..

I came from X100's into the 6.0 LZ straight in and they are plenty shaft.

The 6.5 LZ's are much stiffer than an X100 in my opinion and not near as smooth.

That’s funny, this is a good example of different shafts working for different people.  I’ve never gotten on well with x100’s but do great with LZ 6.5’s.  I think they are smooth and easy to launch.  Gold equipment sure is funny!

Funny how feel is so much different to each person and exactly why fitting is recommend before buying on recommendation... What works/feels great in one persons hands is totally opposite to another.
