Sugar golf balls are the REAL DEAL!

I purchased a cube of Sugar golf balls after seeing the TXG review of them.  My expectation was that they might be ok for someone with a high swing speed, but certainly not for someone like me, or my playing partners.  For reference, here's the run down of our foursome today.

me - 73 years old, slowest swing speed of all 4 of us, played the Maxfli Tour for the first 9 holes

John - 74 years old, but much faster swing speed and has been playing ProV1 for years.

Jim - 50 years old, Played an ERC for the first few holes, then switch to the Sugar ball, really good swing speed

Tom - 50 year old and played the Sugar ball for all 18 holes, really good swing speed

Today was a really tough day to play golf... 15-20 mph winds out of the north with gusts of 40 mph.

At the end of the day, we all agreed that the Sugar balls were for real.  Soft without being mushy.  Great feel.  Nice spin when hitting into the greens.  Whether hit with the driver or irons, the feel was simply really, really nice, and with the putter the results were very predictable.

I'm quite sure all of my playing partners will be buying their own cube of Sugar golf balls.  They just flat out performed, even when hitting into a strong south wind, and half the holes were directly into the wind.

I am in no way affiliated with the Sugar golf ball, but just wanted to share our results with the golfWRX community.

Nice.  Nothing for anyone outside the US in North America unfortunately.  😞

I agree... strange name, but you can't beat the performance to price ratio.  You can order them in the UK.  They might even be a UK company.

Appears they are a US company run out of an apartment complex in Austin, TX. Balls are manufactured by Launch Technologies Co. based in Taiwan. Appears to be another decent DTC company.

Normally I just order to my US mail box (I'm in Canada) but I can't even do that because they don't accept billing addresses outside of the US. What I may have to do to buy a box or two is to get a friend in the US to order them to my box and I just pay them which I may do to try these out. I do need some cheaper balls and want to give these a try.

These are a just a little too expensive for a new no name brand. As others have mentioned, you can get Maxfli Tours and Z Stars, among others for cheaper and those are proven balls.

I think Sugar would be better suited pricing these at say $59 rather than $69. Would be much more interested in trying these at that price.

I'm not trying to say its not a good ball - haven't played it.  BUT we shouldn't pretend it isn't what it most likely is - a catalog ball from a large producer.  They probably receive these in bulk from wherever they're made and have those cube boxes made or delivered to their address.  They probably then box those up and mail them out.  As for the apartment complex address, probably beats the address of the mini storage unit they keep the bulk balls, in the TX heat.  Now that's all supposition of course but when your address IS an apartment complex how would expect it to be run?  People can spend their money any way they want but as for golf balls I think there are more reliable options out there.

My hang up comes right from their main page with this quote: "Designed to compete with Titleist ProV1, Callaway Hex Chrome, Vice Pro, and other major tour balls."

Callaway Hex Chrome? Callaway hasnt used that name for their premium ball in many years, so what rock did these guy crawl out from under when writing their website??

So True!  This statement on their site is a dead giveaway

I also purchased the Sugar balls, live in the US. I feel that the quality and performance of these are on par with any tour level ball. I am not an expert or particularly good player 11.1 index. As far as length there right there, feel is great, spin is good. Most of the DTC balls are good. I am not good enough to pick up on the tiny differences there might be. Sugar did the name from the box they come in, a sugar cube no frills packaging. To me prov1 is the gold standard, but all tour level balls are of the same quality, most of the tour DTC fit right in. To me most are indistinguishable from there prov1 or prov1x counterparts. Let the bashing begin.

At $2.55 per ball they're not as expensive as Pro V, but I'm quite content with my Callaway at $2.07 per ball.

On the subject of catalog balls, it's a real eye opener if you take a tour of the Titleist plant and see Titleists and Pinnacles coming off the same production line.

Snell's are great balls, as are Sugars and Vice. I have used Snell's in the past and loved them. Once they get their supply chain problem corrected and offer bulk discounts I will order again. I am not a good enough golfer to tell the difference between a Snell MTB, Sugar, Vice Pro or ProV1, They all feel great and perform similarly.
