Cleveland UHX long irons w/ Srixon short/mid?

Cleveland UHX irons are coming down in price and are about $85 bought individually. I assume the tech of the long irons is pretty similar to the ZX4’s and they say they have a V sole. Offset looks reasonable.

Anyone thought of pairing these with mid and short irons from Srixon? Seems like a value play on the mixed set thing.

If the gaps work and the visual difference doesn't bug you, or they look enough alike, I say rock on.

Spent a long time looking at these at the golf shop the other day and was trying to figure out what the difference is between the UHX, the ZX4, and the U85.

What I finally decided was that their profiles were all almost identical, the only difference is that the U85 and ZX4 are forged.

All 3 of them have quite large soles, so my main concern with them would be turf interaction. I have a U85 and find it very difficult to hit off the turf, but the ZX4 and UHX look like they have the V-sole, so turf interaction could be better hopefully.

I actually have a set of Srixon Z565 in 6-Aw (was 7-Aw initially), and I purchased a 5 & 6 UHX to go with the set.  They do look slightly different being painted silver vs the chrome finish, but they perform just fine. I did replace the 6 with a Z565 only because I found one cheap and like the look better. But the 5 fits fine and performs perfectly in that spot so no need to change.

Thanks for the replies. I feel like I need to see them in person before ordering so I’ll make that happen this week.

I seen the Zx4 in person a few weeks ago and those do look really good. If I didn’t already have the UHX I would get those to blend in, but I’ll wait till those go down in price later on.

My current 4 and 5 irons are Srixon 355’s (cast cavity back). I usually hit them great in the range when I can hit them 4-6 times in a row, but not as well when it matters. More practice is probably the answer.

Yeah, if you have the ability to see them in person before ordering, that would definitely be the best way to go.

For me, after I saw the UHX and ZX4, I ended up cancelling an order I had with Srixon for a ZX4 4-iron to replace my U85 because I thought they looked too similar and I was concerned I would have similar issues with it.

Instead I ordered a TM P790 for my 4-iron spot to go with my set of ZX5 5-PW that are on the way because I know what type of turf interaction and forgiveness I can get from the P790, along with consistent distance from that slot in the bag.

The thing I love about the UHX is the head weight. This is fantastic driving iron or long iron replacement, especially if you are looking to go to graphite for some more speed and something that is easy to launch. It also lets you play it at a decent length that can blend into your irons a bit better in my opinion.

Usually a SGI iron is D0 or D1 with a graphite shaft. You see that with the ZX4. When you play ZX7s at D3 that can throw you off.

When you switch over to the ZX utility, you get a decent SW, but at the expense of shaft length. The 23* club is 3/4 of an inch longer than the UHX. If you play a stock ZX5 5 iron at 24* and 38 inches, and then plug in the 20* ZX utility, its an inch and half longer. Thats going to be very noticeable and feel very long. The UHX is a more natural set progression.

Of course it is butt ugly. But if you dont get along with longer and lighter clubs, its definitely worth trying.

Thanks, that’s helpful.

I had a U65 4,23 for a while. I think I might have stuck with it in reg flex but the stuff was too stout for me and the length was a challenge. I hit a few great shots with it but it started to feel like luck…and I’ve never been very lucky!

I have the UHX 3 iron  loft is 18 degrees.  It’s really easy to hit off the turf.  V-Sole makes it very easy to hit

Good to know. Since that post I actually sold the U85 and have tried a P790, a Z 565, and now have a P770.

Just looking for a unicorn and the right fit for off the Tee and off the deck in that 3/4 iron spot.

All of them had graphite shafts (got the Z 565 built custom), which I think has been the problem. The P770 I’m testing now has the same Modus3 Tour 120 shaft as my irons, so I think this one will be the best fit. We’ll see!
