Golfsmith Swingweight Scale

Hello, 

So I’ve had this il’ swingweight scale I purchased years ago used. It didn’t come with a manual as it’s pretty straightforward to use but...

I have always wondered if the measuring point is the end of the weight or the “scratch” on it. 
Here is a picture. Is it a D2 or D3?

Yes I know...who cares about one SW point but this is merely out of boredom and curiosity.

I never thought of checking mine at the zero mark to calibrate, that's a great little tip there. Also didn't know the brass bit in the weight moved to calibrate either. Ive learned a lot from this thr

I think I have the same exact scale...

Definitely D-3...."scratch" is the indicator line...

 

To zero out - calibrate the scale, slide the weight all the way to the static weight - grams end of the scale bar...align 'scratch' with the 0....check balance indicator on the other end of the bar..I had to add a little lead tape to the beam bar on the static weight end when I first bought it...

Whoa...I’ve got some heavy swingweights...

...oh and the gold weight is moveable. I think that it’s made to move to counter different set ups. So you move it instead of adding lead tape.

I cant tell from you picture, but if that scale has the ability to weight parts or clubs, set the weight to 0g.  It should balance then see where the line is.

I have the exact model which I bought new 20+ years ago and the gold weight doesn’t move on mine.

 

The advice about zeroing it is spot on.

I zeroed mine out putting the scratch line on zero. To do that I had to adjust the gold weight to get it spot on. It doesn’t move freely, had to use a little force to get it to move but at least now it’s calibrated.

I have a similar GS scale.  The notch or scratch is definitely the SW indicator.  And the calibration of the scale is as described above.  First make sure you surface is level and then make sure the unit is level, if not shim the feet to get it level and then add lead tape where needed to balance the scale wit the weight at zero.

Ive learned a lot from this thread, going to go out and check mine later with my new found knowledge and then probably rebuild my clubs again afterwards!
