It's a sport if you walk the course. It's a sport if you play single-index.

It's a game if you drink alcohol. It's a game if you're goofing around.

The beauty of golf is that it can be both, depending on what you want it to be that day.

what is it if you walk, drink, shoot 90 but win your club championship with a career best 74?

All penalties should be one-stoke, point of entry, two club lengths no closer to the hole. Lost ball, OB, lateral hazard, water hazard, and unplayable.

If you're on a cart path, it should be the player's choice which side the drop is on.

It's already how 95% of people play, so just get on with it.

I'm with you on this.

Newest is not always best.

What's popular in golf is 90% marketing/Tour play 10% actual results

The Tour Edge 721 line is GROSSLY underrated

Mizuno Irons have gotten worse the last 8 years but their woods are incredible

Callaway drivers this year sound and feel awful

Nike made fantastic low handicap level clubs

Brand loyalty is absolutely DUMB unless you're on staff with them or being paid to play them

Playing against a guy with a 20-50 year old putter should scare the socks off you

the purpose of going back is stroke AND distance. Also, the reasoning for going back is because you cannot determine where it is, unless you witnessed it cross and hazard area  -- it's a lost ball, thus the provisional.

I get it, but going back for distance is punitive to your partners and the groups behind you.

In a penalty area, you rely on the line of the shot; point of entry. You should do that for all penalties, including lost, for one shot.

I still believe in red = 1 shot, lost = 1 shot, and out over white stakes being 2 shots with normal relief because some OB shots are actually dangerous and deserve a heavy penalty. I think if you're OB at any time, you should get a pickup score instead of a penalty but since no one in the States plays that way, it's sort of impossible. The don't-walk-back procedure (which many, many players do anyhow) should be the way forward.

It's unfortunate that the golf on TV influences bad practice in play for so many. Stroke competition is for people with low caps, IMO. 95% of rounds should be Stableford. If you don't have an index, you should pick up after you can't get a double, score a triple, and move on just like your local putt-putt centre.

Where the lost ball rule gets me is unstaked fescue in plain sight. I'm talking about the fescue that looks like a matted dog coat, which we locally refer to as Love Grass..because if you're in it, you're f**ked.

There's a hole at my club with this stuff in play, entirely in plain sight from the tee. Many a time we've seen tee shots go into that grass with a reasonable 10' search radius, but it's near impossible to find some shots when they enter into the grain of the grass. Maybe it's more of a club committee or local rule discretion, but if you know players can't regularly find their balls in that grass, it should be staked. I've even taken unplayables several times from that stuff going back on the line, but it would speed up play and remain penal as a red area. Fortunately my weekend game is team Nassau and we use ESC for posting anyway, but it bugs me.

100% agree. Can't find it, but know where it is within reason? Go to the furthest point back in the circle where you know it landed, and drop, +1 shot.

It's a far simpler thing than having to declare it lost, and then go back 300yds. It's as if the concept of a smaller-than-2" ball going so far might get lost… I've lost balls that I *know* were in the fairway, but may have rolled a long ways off because it was so dry. Maddening.

If you can lose your ball in grass, it darn well should be staked under current rules, or some sort of reasonable local should be in place.

Yea man to a lost ball and OB being one stroke and taking a drop from where it last crossed OB or where it was last seen.  So stupid you have to go back a couple hundred yards and play a third shot.  I have never in 40 years during a non tournament seen anyone go back and re hit when they lost a ball.  Rounds would be 7 hours.  So stupid.

My clubs have really nice custom ferrules on them put on by previous owner.... dark colored marble design, really nice!

I havent noticed them once, no one has ever noticed them or said anything...... they might as well be black.... dumb

Here's a few that might be unpopular around here.

V-Steel woods were not special, and were not better than their peers at the time.

All putter tech since perimeter weighting is a gimmick.

Push carts should be used exclusively by the elderly.

I still can't believe there are covers for alignment sticks but that shouldn't be a thing.

And V steels are still not special:

More people should putt with blades rather than mallets, you will get better

Like Tiger and his Son, more people should learn to hit blades first rather than shovels

I don't care how far you hit it, can you get up and down?

All clubs these days are good, no one really makes anything that bad

Wilson are very underestimated and always have been, plus price points are really really good

Having a staff bag when you aren't a pro isn't a bad thing, as bags goes I think staff bags are the best put together and have the best solutions for most golfers who play a lot, I just wish more companies made more 'mini' staff bags

Probably just me, but the most expensive golf balls all feel the same to me, all of them fly roughly the same and spin roughly the same, I have now decided to just buy whatever I can get a good price on

Putter shaft technology is the real deal, y'all should be trying Stability, LAGP etc etc.
