Tsi2 or tsi3 4 wood and why

belh22

Recommended Posts

Depends on your needs, but it seems to be the the TSi2 is the fan favorite. I play the TSi2 in both the 4 and 7 woods. They’re some of the best all around performing fairway woods I’ve ever had. The TSi3 is definitely a little lower hitting and spinning, but the TSi2 is in no way uncontrollable. Both of mine have a flat controllable flight.

Thanks.  What shafts do you have in them?  Anyone have tsi2 with a lower spin/launch shaft?

I also have a tsi2 7 wood with a red ventus 9x and love it. Just picked up a tsi3 4 wood. Have taken it to the course yet, I just preferred the look of the tsi3 in a stronger lofted wood and was getting similar numbers with both the 2 and the 3

Tsi2 fairway offers an easier to launch option of the two and still look good at address.

I would like to ask those who went with the 16.5 degree why they went with it over the 15 degree?

I ask because I would assume the smaller head (140 vs 175) would make it less forgiving, and the fact that you could loft them up to the same would make them even...right?

I like to loft down my woods to open the face up a bit. Im playing a 16.5 degree at C1

I bought both 16.5 heads over the winter. I had the 3 first and liked everything about it and regretted buying the 2. Until I played it. For me, it was an easy decision after playing both in the same shaft for about 6 rounds each.  Off the tee, they were pretty even, tho the 3 ran out a bit more than I'd want. I could work the 2 both ways easier and it was better off the deck. It was just a better all around head for me.

I play a KK XD80 TX set on D1. I've never been a very good fw player but it's become a strength.

Two friends of mine, knowing I've struggled with fw's for years, bought a TSi2 after a few rounds watching me with mine. They need a little more distance, so they got the 15 heads. We talk about how good this club is pretty much every round we play.

Heads of Tsi2 or Tsi3 are visually. slightly different, but not so much it grabs my attention in a bad way.  I have been playing Ts2 16.5' 4wd since it was introduced, and tested both newer Tsi2 & Tsi3 versions in 16.5 and 15'.  Looks like Tsi2 15' is going to win.

The question I asked my self was how often do I work the ball with that club, and do I need the lower Tsi3 trajectory.  Answer; I can think of only a few Par 5 holes on different courses where I move the ball on 2nd shots and I would like a lower trajectory.  I seldom use it off the tee, always opt for 2i.  I concluded Tsi2 bends enough, but instead of 16.5' I'll likely go with 15' to get a bit lower trajectory and some extra yards.

I did head-to-head testing with both the 16.5 and 15 TSi3 at 15.75* in the flat lie setting with the Tensei AV White 85. Several garage practice sessions and a few rounds on the course. My primary (only?) use for this club is tee shots on tight par 4s/5s, and I don't try to hit it far, just accurately. I can't remember the last time I hit a 3W from anywhere but a tee box.

Found the 15 lofted up worked much better for me. I was hesitant about the closed face but once I grip and square it up at address, I don't notice/feel anything funky with face angle.

My thoughts same as yours. Bigger CC head: (1) gives me more confidence set up behind the ball on the tee; (2) larger sweet spot for forgiveness. And I just feel more comfortable lofting up rather than lofting down with an already low-launch, low-spin shaft.

I got the 16.5* for this same reason as I tend to pull my fairway woods so have it at C1 opens the face up and has 1* flat

There have been some threads suggesting that in the TSi fairway series there is now a noticeable difference in the physical size of the 15 deg and 16.5 deg (e.g., between the 15 and 18 as opposed to basically the same size as the 15 in previous series...).

I'm in Japan for a few more months and 16.5 is a special order item here so I can't find a place to see one.  Can anybody confirm whether there is indeed a difference or whether, as with the previous iterations, 16.5 is basically the same club as 15 simply with more loft?

Thanks.

Definitely a noticeable difference in the TSi3 15 and 16.5 size side by side. I sold my 16.5 and never thought to take a pic together. Sorry about that.

The difference to my eyes, when setting them to same 15.75 loft and addressing the ball, is in the front to back direction more than toe to heel or top line. The back of the 16.5 seemed to be higher and more level with the ground, and I noticed light reflection on the crown from my garage overhead flourescents to be closer to the ball and consume more of the crown. In contrast, the 15 appeared to sit lower and deeper behind the ball, and showed much more glossy black than reflected light. It’s probably some visual trickery with angles of reflection, but it was indeed noticeable.

Spec wise the 15 is a bigger head by about 35 CCs.

I like the shape of the TSi2 vs the TSi3. TSi3 definitely lower launching and lower spinning but the head shape was alittle smaller than I was comfortable with. Seems like it looks like the Titleist PT...

Totally off topic but seeing how some members here got the Ventus Red 9X... Anyone know where I can grab a Black 9X? TIA!~

I’m trying to understand why the Red 9X in the 7-wood?  Isn’t that going to be a pretty high launching club already?  Why not the Black or Blue?

I have a Red 9x for my 7 wood. Tipped 2 inches. Some people found it as the "Ventus Purple" basically a carbon copy of a Rombax. The red itself isnt necessarily a high launch shaft in my opinion. I have it in my 4 wood as well. The red just has a perfect profile for a fairway wood. I can launch it high if i need to and it stops dead on a green, or i can flight it down and get it running

I finally bit the bullet and upgraded from a 917 F2 16.5* to the TSi2 16.5*.  Pretty rare for me, but bought it without any range time trying a demo...and it's worked out great.  Dropped my Tour AD DI 7x shaft into the head and had some nice results on the course.  I do like the higher launch and better feels with the new head.

I play the TSi2 in 15* with ventus blue 7x and 21* with graphite design AD-XC 8X. Love them both. Started out with a TSi3 is the 15*. The TSi2 is definitely higher launch and more forgiving. Also currently playing around with a ventus red 9X tipped 1” in the 7W. Seems to spin a bit more more than the AD XC.
