They do it once a week and they basically dance all over what the PGA Tour produces.

It's first class and the Augusta Chronicle used to have its own app separate from its regular one for Masters week, I'll have to check if they still do.  It was a treasure trove of archival info and hundreds of daily pics and lots of info!

Favorite golf week of the year!!!!!!!!

Have a great Masters Richard, Maddie and all!

For whatever reason, they did away with it and just tween you and I, that was the app that I used whenever I went on the Masters apps. It blew the official Masters app away and I have no doubt that someone at Augusta paid the good folks at the Chronicle a visit and I'm sure to keep the peace and be a "good" neighbor, they made it financially worthwhile for the Chronicle to drop the app.

As I mentioned, and you obviously know, their stories were kick-*ss and reminded me of the kind of stories that Pete and Sam would tell and aside from the technological changes in the game over the past 25-35 years, what really saddens me is the fact that the history of the game and its Players, and those stories, are practically dead.

While the Masters App is as slick as can be, and you can literally go on it and watch EVERY SINGLE SHOT that DJ hit in his final round last year, you will not find the kinds of stories that the Chronicle printed daily that were priceless in their significance to those Players back in the day.

Someone asked me last week what I missed most about Pete and while I loved him like a Father and indeed miss our back and forth banter or his slight nod and wink when I'd hit a nice shot on the course, I think what I've missed most were his stories cuz not a week went by for the last 30 of our 32+ years together when he did not tell me and later Madison, at least one story from the Tour, Sam and the Guys from back in the day.

The Chronicle was the closest thing that I had to Pete with their off the wall stories that were akin to bein a fly on the wall I. The locker room or sittin around with the old guys at the 19th, and if ya go back to the old threads you'll find my thread a few years back when I "discovered" the Chronicle app😂😂😂, purely by accident. I was lookin all over for the app this year and all that I could find was this newspaper app, lol🤷🏼‍♂️

I was elated, lol

Also, it was a superb app, the stories aside👌🏼

Oh well, let's hope that the Chronicle still posts up some of those articles and stories.

Stay Well Brotha, Maddie send hugs and kisses👊🤗😘

RP,

Thanks the for heads up. I will check out the Chronicle as well. Obviously last season the Tournament was in November and I happen to have COVID at the time - thankfully with very light symptoms - and so I was able to watch more golf than ever. Friends and family kept me well supplied. It was a fortunate coincidence. Looking forward to it in full bloom. It’s almost always a great week. Take care

This app is and has been absolutely fantastic for years now. For as old timey and historical they make the tournament feel, the masters is leaps and bounds ahead of anything else technology wise in golf and probably sports in general. They lead the way with innovation and they do it all without throwing it behind a paywall. Props.

Don't forget to answer the fantasy contest...you only need to pick 4 golfers, and then the total number of pars during tournament week as tiebreaker.

You do need an account, fyi, but it's free.

What a crazy tiebreaker question.... What was everyone's best guess? I went with 2185.

Thanks for the post, Richard.

Masters week is event at my house.   We use the app, have friends over (wearing masks, Tyvek suits  and scuba goggles of course), multiple TVs going, food, drinks - it's a pretty good time.  This is the first year in recent memory there is no clear favorite among the group.

Got it for the 2019 Masters and really enjoyed it, kept it on the phone for DJs victory and look forward to using it this week.... Were a bit slow at work, I may try and swing Thursday Friday off and try to watch as much of it as I can. If not I'll have it open on the laptop on my toolbox haha

I generally don't like to help my competitors, but...using the 88 players playing 36 and top 50 playing another 36 you get 4968 holes played over the course of the tournament.  They'll be a couple WDs, probably, so maybe a few holes less.

I'm not sure what the par percentage at Augusta is, but 43% seems really low!  (2185/4968).

Now it's been a while since I took math, so if I'm wrong don't flame me.

I found an amount of pars made on one hole in 2019 and multiplied it by 18 for a rough number.

I would guess around 70% of the total holes played.

Using those figures, you think the average player will be 12 over par for the tournament?

I agree that that's waaaay high as last year's last place finisher, Jimmy Walker at #60 all by his lonesome, had a 296(+8) and only 15 guys of those 60 that made the cut finished over par(288). Guys should remember that the line was even par(144).

Thanks for responding👊

I'm sure that most of ya are familiar with the Masters App, though for any that aren't, it's a superb app and is pretty much idiot-proof, as witnessed by the fact that I can navigate it with ease🤪.

Another great app with superb coverage and great stories that ya won't see in the big media coverage is the Augusta Chronicle, the local paper. The stories are excellent!!

Go get em Jordan👊

Stay Well & Enjoy the Tourney

@Forged4ever: Your reminiscing about “stories” came to mind, when I listened to today’s podcast of The Masters.

This episode includes stories from Verne Lundquist, Ben Crenshaw and Phil Mickelson. Hopefully you’ll enjoy these as much as I’ve enjoyed your posts on GolfWRX forum!

https://podcasts.apple.com/sg/podcast/the-masters-fore-please-now-driving/id1458296184#episodeGuid=Buzzsprout-8285271

..Synopsis/ Extract:
"On this episode of the podcast, we hear Bryson DeChambeau describe his approach to the Tournament, Rory McIlroy on completing the grand slam, Phil Mickelson tells a funny Champion’s Dinner story, and Justin Thomas on his mentor Tiger Woods. Host Marty Smith then sits down with two-time champion Ben Crenshaw to discuss his love for Augusta National. Then, legendary sportscaster Verne Lundquist shares some of his favorite Masters memories."

I think scores will be higher this year. I may be a little low in my guess, but rumors are it's playing hard and fast as revenge for the November scoring bonanza. I wouldn't be surprised to see a winning score of -5 and a similar leaderboard to the us open.
