Random, dumb question....but how do they determine groupings for people who are tied?  Example, why is Hideki going off with Xander and not Rose or Leishman etc.  How do they determine the grouping when all scores are the same?

First in, last out. So Xander is in the final group because he posted his score first Saturday.

I don't think he's putting poorly though, you can't do that and post 67 around there. Hideki is a notoriously poor putter by tour standards, uses those green reading books a lot and he's leading. Watching Bryson in the first round, his angles were not good and he was wedging everything a mile past the pin. But he's definitely not blowing the field away with his putter like he can at tournaments that use the books, you're absolutely right on that.

 

Green reading books should be banned at majors at a minimum.  Skill and brainpower should dictate putting success.

I hated it for JT at the time because he had been playing really well this week, but generally speaking, it warms my heart a little when one of these guys hits a bad shot, then immediately follows it up with a chili dipped wedge into a hazard. 
 

Not that I’m rooting for any of these guys to do poorly, but I’ve done it and seen it too many times myself. I know the feeling and to then remember that the best in the world can do it too is kind of nice.

Thing is, if it's like that, it becomes more likely to be a procession for Matsuyama.  When they had the course toughened in the mid-aughts, you ended up with 69 being the best round and no real lights out action on the back nine.   Nobody really talks about the 07, 08 Masters, and it's not just because of the winners.

High level golf swings are poetry in motion. Bryson’s is the antithesis of that. Nothing poetic there except poetic justice water ball. Kinda hard to be a par 67 when you can’t even par the par 5s bro
