Just saying. Everyone thinks it’s boring because he has a huge lead. Guaranteed no one said that in 1997 or pebble 2000. Just an observation.

Dude Tiger is arguably the most popular athlete of the past 30 years in the entire world of any sport...

Matsuyama wouldn’t make the top 10 list of most people’s favorite golfer.

Please try to see the difference.

It's a poor observation as you not capable of guaranteeing how everyone felt and what everyone said about those 2 tournaments.

Just saying.

to him, yeah. But Not to a sponsor 😃

Unless, of course, that sponsor wants to advertise in Japan ... a small market, but still (sarcasm).

Not to mention that Tiger was 21 years old and breaking all the records. If Matsuyama was -30 at this point and making birdie after birdie then this would be entertaining.

Nothing not to like about Matsuyma's ball striking - clinic in all aspects if the game, but would it be too much to ask that after 10 years cashing checks on the PGA Tour he can't utter anything that closely resembles the English language?

Numerous US pros played on the Japanese PGA Tour for a decade or more who couldn't order a beer in anything that resembled the Japanese language.

Oh, and a little more insight into Jumbo and Asao Aoki. Jumbo was long and almost single handedly advanced the JPGA Tour. He was kind of rough, which was an image he liked. He had been a pro baseball pitcher. At his peak, they wouldn't even televise a tournament if he wasn't in it. You think Tiger has influence? They would cut down the rough in areas where he would be expected to drive the ball to give him (and TV ratings) every chance to win. His wife just about bankrupted him with lousy investments and he's been forced to play in Japanese senior events to make some money, but there is little money to be won.

Aoki was considered very rude when he was a young player on the JPGA Tour. Being a braggart is not cool in Japan. His lucky holing of 100+ yard shot on the last hole of the Hawaii Open didn't really make him the same stature as Jumbo Ozaki. He's mellowed in his old age. He lost some prestige when he started giving Matsuyama uninvited advice on the air and then in person. He tried to get Matsuyama to putt like he did (the toe of the putter waaaaaay off the ground) and Matsuyama reluctantly tried it for a short while out of respect for Aoki, but quickly abandoned it.

You know it's possible Matsuyama like burgers and fries right ?

Everyone like "his master's dinner next year is gonna be sushi and rice while watching sumo wrestling, and then they'll all go drift outside in Nissan Silvia's and then do kareoke"

Shhhhh ... it's not really racism if everybody laughs uncomfortably.

Didn't Jumbo have an unfortunate cheating scandal?

Tournament has been dull this year due to the US Open pin/green setup they ran with, garbage pin positions everyday and brown greens. Masters seem to be trying to stay close to single figure winning score, maybe the Bryson effect, I dunno.

So what you get is standard US Open style golf, people trying to just grind out and desperately trying hang on to a Par each hole
