Several online pundits agree with you - mostly at the 'alternative' sports media sites.  Certainly not at the sunshine-pumping stations eg Golf.com.

As the glow starts to fade I'm afraid I'm starting to agree also.  I'm happy with a winner who wasn't a fluke no matter what his nationality but tricking up the greens and the hole locations robbed the field of the chance to go low and shake things up.  ANGC are in a catch-22.  Make the course accessible and risk -15 or -20 with a crowded leader board or trick it up and rely mostly on the field taking themselves out.  In either case the 350+ drives are here to stay so short of the vaunted mythical Masters ball I don't know what the solution is.

My overall feeling is that of seeing a favorite band in concert after a long wait and admitting, the morning after, that it really wasn't that great of a gig.  You would go see them again tomorrow but your expectations would be dulled.

not sure why nationality was mentioned but the course being hard is how it should be......DJ going to -20 last year is a joke so im all for tough pin placements, super fast greens and on occasion, some weather that can be a factor.

not even sure what this means, but ok....not sure how you came to this conclusion by what was posted.

You said "ill just say this......what a HORRIBLE tournament........ Masters 2021 was a ginormous fail"

I asked for details?

You responded with TV ratings to justify your answer.  Are you being obtuse on purpose?

Driver-wedge on 17 and 18 is anti-climatic.  I'd love to see the player's iron game tested down the stretch, not just the wedge game.  Does the ball go too far?  I've already chimed in on that so I'll not revive it.

I agree, the course was perfect.

I think there is a language barrier.  What he is trying to say is "Tiger roolz, and this just proves it."

I feel that is a good question. He came out of the rain delay absolutely on fire. Those delays can jumpstart or derail a round. He could have done something to refocus. Sitting in his car and playing on his phone may have been just the trick to relax his brain and come out fresh..

I highly doubt he went to his car and played on his phone for an hour in order to relax his brain and come out fresh.

Guess what?  90% of sporting events are forgettable...I watch way too much televised sports, and the memorable events are rare.

Yep,too many people try to replicate the "great moments."  Forgetting the fact that what makes them great is the rarity of them.  Like everything else, it isn't very special if it happens all the time.

For once I was able to get a round of golf in early and avoid all updates on phone, fellow golfers and passing chat until I got home for the recording.

Opening tee shot from Hidecki and it was like, uh-oh, here we go.  In less than 10 minutes Zalatoris is right on the heels.  Then came the Xander implosion.  Hidecki still on edge and it was really the par putt on 5 that was super clutch that steadied him.  If he misses that putt, then perhaps it is a totally different ballgame.  Thanks to the Xander implosion, there was this lull and a bit boring as Matsu ticked off hole by hole.  But the Masters does not really start until the second nine, right?

As another post pointed out, Hidecki won this over four days, and it did not matter he bogeyed 3 of last 4 because he built that lead and had that cushion to play with because no one was really pressuring him a lot.  The moment was certainly pressuring him but fact was, the handful of golfers within reach did nothing special on the front 9, and did not step it up in that crucial 13 - 16 stretch.  Even so, there was still enough drama for me.  To watch a golfer with the weight of an entire Country on his shoulders, not just any Country, but one arguably the most fanatic about golf (at least top 3), hold it together and hit the clutch tee shots was fun to watch.

That walk he made from 18 to the scoring area as it all sinks in and he is holding it together caught on the new HD cameras was golden.  Congratulations Hidecki.  Thank you for the great story and history making.

...

Now isn't much better outcome than a Kenny Perry collapse, or the many others in history?  Much better than an Arnold Palmer double bogey on 18 to hand it to Gary Player?

I really try to like this guy, but he makes it so difficult:

This guy would fail miserably if he had to play 20 years ago.

He's definitely not a feel player.  I don't know how many of those guys out there are though.  He may be the pinnacle of analytical however.

Might be a spin-off for a new thread.  Current player best described as a feel player and historically (cap it at last 30 years) who was the most?

he didnt have enough club tried to get to much out of it and hooked it, he was ten yards left, ten yards short. He knows how to play the sunday flag, I never played there and I know how to play it. He needed one more club

Could have just been me but when he hit it, I thought he hit that fat! It sounded fat and not flushed.

I was happy HM won because I hate to see a player blow a big lead the final day.  For me he won the tourney after the rain on Saturday.  The finish was enough to get it done.  That is why a big lead is helpful- you don't have to play great to finish it off.  One thing I have always thought about this course and this year seems to back it up- it is almost unplayable in more than a one club wind because the level of approach precision is so high and the greens so  un puttable from the wrong side of a hole location.  Even veteran players were left guessing and hoping rather than tactically working their way around.

For HM to finish it off with a whole country of fans on your back was great to see- and doing it while working on his swing like JS last week was even better.  His short game seems the most refined it has ever been and his putting was very consistent.  If he stays healthy he should be in the top ten of the world for a long time.

YOUR EXACT WORDS "Masters 2021 was a ginormous fail"  and you tried to justify your words with TV ratings.  I'm just saying ratings aren't necessarily correlated with quality.  The trend line for golf ratings is roughly flat for 17 years, so large ratings swings (as you like to post today and have done so previously) really is not a good indicator of success or failure of a tournament.

As for the WRX thread, it's a long thread, like other majors--- so I guess that indicates success.

As for Tiger fanbois that can't accept the fact that he's basically done, well you guys are just insufferable.

Now objectively speaking and my opinion--- was it the most exciting major? No. Many aren't unless it's a horse race to the finish.  But was it a good tournament with respect to seeing some really great golf played on a beautiful golf course?  YES!

Did you just sayyy...Tigers done?
