Diamonds on scoring lines...thoughts? (pic inside)

Old school that is for sure, it’s a no from me though. The more simply a look for a club the better (with the exception of the putter where I would use a satellite if it helped me putt better 😂).

they're classic -- but i don't like seeing them down there. would rather straight lines perpendicular to grooves.

And here I thought this would be a thread were I could complain about the cost as who would want diamonds in the scoring lines that would chew up balls...  This, I have no problem with, I have more issues in my head wanting to hit the ball well than to worry about an homage of a by-gone era.  But the new Wilson stuff looks fantastic, but obviously won't be done for all models/generations.

As a guy who used MacGregor blades for a very long time, 4 different sets, those diamonds look fantastic.

I acknowledge the classic look; however, I do not prefer them on my clubs.

I think the little bit of extra via the diamond shape is pretty cool.  And in no way does it affect performance....shouldn't be making contact in that area anyway.

I don't think it should go on every iron, but like a blade or a special edition iron sure. I know @FairwayFred has done it a few times on their irons and they look great.

Agreed. I also play only all black ferrules. No lines, no alternate colors.

Looks like something to collect dirt with no particular benefit. 

 

If we're talking about decorations on the face, I'd much rather have the number of the iron printed on the face near the toe. That can actually avoid hitting a wrong club a couple times a year.

Hmmm. The less to look at on the face, the better for me. I can honestly say I’ve never grabbed the wrong iron. Always just look at the # on the sole before pulling it. Do you just forget to look before pulling the club? Or look but then accidentally pull the club next to it??

My custom MacGregor 2-LW set of 1025 MBs have purr-dee diamonds at the ends of each scoring line.   Really nice touch that does nothing other than look good.  Those were common to the brand back in its day.

I love the diamonds.  My first couple of set of clubs had them.  I also played Palmer Axiom II in college, and they had a vertical straight line that connected the groove ends on the toe and heel.  I still think having the face defined like that helped my accuracy.

I looked down at the the arrowheads at end of score lines from 1974-1994 on my 1971 model MacGregor MT flatsole irons (blue arrow).

 

An earlier version of the MTs had clever score line cappers (red arrow):

If the clubface propels the ball forward in a satisfactory manner, I'm not too concerned about face ornamentals.

A set of Palmer blades I own has the diamonds and I really like them...I think they help square up the face.

It can happen, especially when you wonder why your flushed 6 comes up woefully short, only to realize it was a 9.

Completely just for looks. Some say it helps them a little with alignment. Classic look that I personally am a big fan of.
