Grip Help... +1/16 to +1/32

Recommended Posts

I screwed up... I ordered grips (Lamkin UTX cord) at +1/16 instead of +1/32.

I have new grips ordered however I don't think that they will be here in time.  I was thinking about stretching them to make them a bit thinner.  what are the thoughts of the group?

I know... "it's only a fraction of a size and you won't notice the difference"... I promise that I do.

Solutions:

1. grip tape just to start the grip and install on 9/10 golf shaft metal and stretch a bit then?

2. starter tape and then a little strip towards the bottom of the grip and install and then stretch like option 1?

That's equivalent to two extra layers of 0.015 build up tape (or double sided tape) or 3 layers of 0.010" build up tape.  You might be able to get half way there with the techniques you suggested but

Doubt you will get enough stretch to take it down to 1/32". But just grip like normal, stretch down, and apply a piece of tape at the end of the grip to hold it while it dries.

Well i did not see this happening.  The grips were in Texas yesterday afternoon and now they are in PA about an hour from my house so it looks like they will be here either tomorrow or Friday!!!

You can always sell them on the BST (or to some friends) then just order the right size.  I know there are some other UTx fans here in the forum.

Might even be able to return them to where you got them from.

Thanks Stuart, I was hoping you'd see the post.  I ordered more and scheduled to arrive on Thursday according to Amazon but the US postal service is far from efficient these days.  i'm playing Sat morning so If not here but last minute Friday night I will toss the UTX back on and try to stretch a bit.  I put them on once, played 9 holes and were noticeably bigger than I wanted so I pulled them.  Clubs are sitting there naked waiting for the new grips lol

Part of the problem is that you can really either skip the double sided tape (blow them on) OR stretch them.  It's pretty hard to stretch a grip without the solvent lubricating the double sided tape.   The solvent itself isn't much of a lubricant - it only really gets slippery when combined with the adhesive on the tape.
