Adam Scott - New Irons

Recommended Posts

Looks like the 620s which are some sweet irons but quite a big change if so. Curious as to why he might have changed or if he's just testing them out.

I remember reading a while back that the 620 was an attempt to design an up to date 680 to try and get him out of those irons. Looks like they finally succeeded. Just a few months before the new Titleist 622s come out.. LOL..

Wouldn't be surprised if 622 are just a 620 with a new paintjob. If I remember right they were built off JTs wants and had immediate impact on tour.

Both were good. Honestly not all that different in my opinion. Some sole difference and the 680 had a little higher muscle.

680 look with 620 offset (or lack of really) and pre-worn leading edge = money.

I heard he moved to 620 MBs - excellent decision.   That said, I suspect Titleist may change the new series away from 620 design.  620MB and CBs were designed to be interchangeable.  That may have taken a toll on playability for most people, hence marketability.

680s were very traditional design, with a great old style sole, flat and same width heel to toe, and bounce was the same throughout the set.

I have played blades for much of my golf life, ball striking is my thing.  Of all the blades, 670MB's and 620MBs have been the most challenging irons to strike well, similar to my older MacGregor  blades...not much forgiveness when comparing them to the likes of TM and Callaway MB blades.  Though I strike them well, I must focus each and every time, or there is a distance consequence.  If I get at all mentally lazy with MBs, shank-ar-roo...

I would be surprised if they were 620s.  Dramatically different VCOG between 620s and 680s assuming that there wasn't some huge design change between 5 and 6 irons.  Maltby measured 5i VCOG of 680 to be ~0.75" vs 6i VCOG of ~0.85".  Unless Adam is looking to drastically lower ball flight, I don't see standard 620s as a good choice.

I personally like the longer blade length and less bounce with flatter sole that the 680’s offer

I agree. In many cases blade lengths have gotten too short.

Justin Thomas 620’s are one off custom. I presume the Adam Scott 620’s are also.

If they are one off customs with that kind of huge design difference then it would be pretty disingenuous of Titleist to market them as a 620.

That's how you know it's a distinct possibility. At least Callaway now offers most of their 85 iterations of their drivers and irons to the public in "some form", though they only resemble the retail clubs in name.

These seem to be VERY CRISP, PRECISE and forgiving enough to know where you are hitting the ball and what you did with your swing...

Everything about that iron is PERFECT except the toe. I feel like Titleist has designed a beautiful blade but forgotten to address the end of it. It’s not rounded like a Srixon, boxy like a TM, or squared off like a Wilson. Instead, it’s an oblong mess with a bulbous lower half and incongruous top. #PleaseFindDonWhite

I’m with you there, just way too round for my taste.  The same with the T100 irons.  The only part of a Titleist iron that I don’t like, once they fix that I may change.

The 680's are one of my favorite shaped blades of all time.  Just too damn sexy.  As for the shank a roos with blades.........the last thing I do is shank with my irons, however, with my new set of mbs, I've noticed a shank or two lately.  I always ask my playing partners to not stand right of me when It's my turn to play.  I heard hosel rockets hurt like a mfer, haha.

Definitely agree with the square toe consensus. Here's my 681 T 6 iron, pretty close to perfection. Also chrome needs to make a comeback.

Shank-a-roos are the last thing I do, too...  They happen, though, thank the Lord, not often.  My last was about a month back.  Standing a 165yd par 3 tee, pretty easy shot, slightly elevated perpendicular green.  I was bored with the course as it was too easy.  I reached for 6i and without proper address, smacked AT the ball; it abruptly when 45' right.  My buddy laughed and said what the hell was that???   It was the pur -de -est 165yd line-drive shank OB into a building site.  I was so pissed at myself, I re-teed and to middle of green and took a 5.  Stupid is as stupid does... and it costs me $$$ too.
