Was this the last hair metal band to really make it before Nirvana killed the genre?

Yeah, I think you got it. I remember the 15 minutes these guys had.

I also think you are right about Nirvana, although I'd say that Metallica, Pantera, and Slayer had a role to play in killing pop metal. Might throw D.R.I., Corrosion of Conformity, and GWAR in there as well.

So, I posted some late 80's/early 90's gems yesterday that represented the Manchester/Midlands/UK scene that was really formative for my musical tastes at that time. But, as a former hard core fan, it would be remiss to overlook some other great tracks of the late 80's and early 90's that lead to the travesty of Blink 182 and Green Day's later career:

McRad/Chuck Treece (1988)

Pennywise:

And...about the last decent song Green Day ever did (although I do like a few tracks off Dookie, I must admit):

Unfortunately this great band never quite made it.

Oh yeah...hell...I sort of remember these ladies - at least the radio cut of "Take it Off." I'm of two minds on them, they were a band that had some catchy songs and sounded good with solid production, but had a hard time pulling it off live. Perhaps I am being sexist? I tend to compare every all female band to The Go Go's.

Never saw them in concert unfortunately, but some of their utube stuff live is quite good. As for all female band you might want to check out Fanny (not plural). Talk about what could of and should of been.

Wow, never heard of them. A bit before my time, but always glad to be educated. Looked them up and will listen to a few tracks this evening. I've always loved female singers and band members - Kim Deal for instance with the Pixies. But, it seem like when they go out on their own, the music suffers - i.e. The Breeders. Again, maybe I am being sexist.

But, it does bring to mind this (mainly) female group from the late 80's/90's that I was very fond of:

Yeah they were a bit early for me, being an 70's child seriously into 60's music. Don't know how many times I have read male groups over the years giving Fanny some serious vibe, all to no avail.

Oh The Sundays, man I love Harriet Wheeler's voice. Easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. I do like "Summertime" but with my Rolling Stones hang up, I just can't abide "Wild Horses." I'm also something of a purist, in that I still see Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic as their best album, and "Here's Where the Story Ends" as their best single.

Off Blind, I particularly liked these two tracks:

Here's another relatively obscure late 80's/early 90's band that I really liked - and again one of the best live shows I have seen:

So Disintegration by the Cure was released in 1989, but that was A LOT of my 1990+ listening. Pictures of You, Lullaby, I mean the entire album.

However, I will throw in a plug for Burn from the soundtrack of the Crow in 1994. RIP Brandon Lee. I personally loved all of that soundtrack:

As i said, MtlJeff will only be contributing rap to the 1990's music thread.

"Reunited" from the Wu-Tang Clan's second album is probably one of the best rap songs ever. A bit under-appreciated when it came out, as "Triumph" was the main hit from the album....Reunited was clearly the best song from Wu Tang Forever, though. The back to back verses from ODB and RZA are arguably 2 of the best verses on the whole album. In fact they are 2 of my favorite versus in any rap song ever....And they happen back to back in the same song which is kind of crazy. ODB starts about 1:05 and RZA at about 1:57

The 2:20~ to 2:40~ segment where RZA says he spreads like plague, drinks Hennessey by the keg, and has the golden egg plus the goose... is like 20 seconds of rap magic.

I always find it hilarious that you are such a big Wu-Tang fan jeff! Can't say anything bad about them at all - definitely better than the Death Row/P Diddy crap of the era. But, I'm also guessing you might be familiar with these:

I was also a big hardcore guy back in the day. Yeah, Green Day has changed a lot. Happens to most bands as time goes by. I saw them many times in Berkeley at Gilman Street when they were just getting started. One of the biggest draws at Gilman was a band called Operation Ivy. Lead singer quit and they became Rancid.

I made time for some others! Nas and biggie mostly (was never into Tupac as much)

But probably 97% of the rap i listened to was Wu-Tang. Had every album up until like 2005 or some when it started getting not as good

I mean, they got older. But serious respect to the RZA for getting in with Hollywood.

One of the best things about Wu-Tang was they were all incredible rappers. This track probably best exemplifies it. Ghostface Killah was very popular for a time (and possibly my favorite overall rapper), however probably the most famous track from his first album "Ironman" was a song called "Winter Warz" ....Never super mainstream, but rap fans LOVED this song

And the best part about it is that the 2 best verses are little known members of the Wu....the opening verse is U-God, who developed a cult following for incredible verses in other people's songs (his solo albums were mostly not great). And then the last 2 minutes of the song is a verse from Cappadonna that is considered one of the alltime best. He basically raps for about 2 1/2 minutes straight with no pause. Again in rap circles, it's a famous one

First concert as a teenager without parental supervision was Live in 1994 at Shippensburg University, right as Selling the Drama was breaking them into the mainstream. The biggest hit was the worst song on Throwing Copper.
