I was hitting a Cobra speedzone xtreme at dicks because I want more forgiveness from my ping g400 lst regular flex driver.

The cobra had a stiff flex hazardous yellow smoke and felt very different. Undecided if in a good way or bad way. Definitely less springy as I'm accustomed to.

A dicks employee watched me hit a few and we chatted a little and he claims anyone swinging between 100 and 102mph as I was should use the stiff flex. Is this true and is the hazardous smoke a pretty good choice?

Either flex could work for you.  Numbers on a launch monitor are numero uno, but for you it could come down to feel.  Some golfers just prefer the feel of a softer shaft.

Usually, but swing speed isn't everything. Also not every "stiff" flex is. I am a little slower at about 97 and went with a slightly heavier stiff in my driver for a world of difference. If I get my swing in order, I'll be in business. 🤣

Cool. That's why I asked about the stock hazardous yellow smoke that comes in the cobra xtreme. Trust me, its much stiffer than the ping g400 regular flex

The hzrdus yellow is also counterbalanced so it will feel ligbter than a shaft of similar weight and length that is not counterbalanced.

Without seeing your swing I’d opt for a 6.0 flex in that shaft but that’s a very blind guess. My driver ss is around 104 and I had an old Speeder Evolution 661 Tour Spec in Stiff flex in a driver that I couldn’t load for anything. It was too stout for me I guess. Swapped it out for a Diamana S+ 60g in Stiff flex and now I’m right back in the game. Shaft flex is really irrelevant if you’re not able to test it out. One mfr’s shaft rating can be vastly different than the same rated shaft from other mfrs.

My swing speed is about the same as yours.  I can’t feel any of the Hzrdus shafts load.  I have a smooth transition though that makes a regular shaft or stiff (in most shafts) work well for me.  Something like the evenflow 5.5 works really well for me.  If I had a little more aggressive transition then the hzrdus line would probably work better.  Basically, like others have said, it just depends.  Depends on your swing, as well as the specific shaft.  You just need to hit them and figure out what works best for you.

101mph, yes probably an S in the dark, but you could go into an R or an X depending on your tempo, if you load the shaft, etc.  If you're really smooth, that R might be a better choice.  Try to hit a bunch of stuff and see what you think.

I agree with this.  But all said and done, you’d most likely end up in an S flex.

It isn't always JUST the S or R "flex" that gives the club it's feel. Flex(Kick) POINT can make a big difference as well. A S with a low kick point will launch higher and feel 'softer'. A high kick will launch lower and fell 'stiffer'. I found that a Stiff with a low kick gave me too much spin and tended to go left and balloon a bit. At least with my swing- I swapped it out for a high point and Launch angle lowered, spin dropped and went left much less often. Now the lefts are MY fault!

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
