Foley hate?

MUNIGRIT

Recommended Posts

On a zoom call over the winter with some Canadian teaching pros, Foley admitted that he used to say things to sound smart when he was a younger coach. Says he’s really worked to tone it down and make it easier to understand. Not sure if he has but kind of confirms what a lot of you are saying on here about the way he taught/teaches.

LOL! Ok. Did Foley force Tiger into these swing changes he proposed? Did Foley force Tiger to take him on as an instructor? Tiger chose Foley as his instructor. Tiger on his own went along with the changes Foley suggested. Same as Tiger did with all of his other swing instructors he went to. So explain to everybody how it's Foleys or Hank's or Como's fault that Tiger decided to go with these people as his instructors and screw him up when Tiger went to them on his own. Did you actually read the article on Foley I linked? Foley has had players that have had zero issues with their backs under his tutelage. Of course you and others skip over that.

When you decide to coach a player and they trust your method, you take responsibility for actions that may hurt their backs. Of course it's not 100% on Foley or Tiger individually, but I never said it was. A coach is only bad for backs if every single player they coach ends up getting a bad back? I never made that point. The point I made is that Foley has an abnormally high number of players that wind up with bad backs with him. That's serious cause for concern if you are coaching professional golfers.

Fair enough, didn’t see that. Rose had said he split from him last year.

Watched the "On the Range" broadcast on Masters.com, they said Rose left, tried some things, and then came back to Foley. Foley was with Rose on the range on Friday for sure (didn't watch today's broadcast).

I think there is too much instruction where the back (or knee) is vulnerable. I wouldn't blame Foley. Could have been compensation for his (Tiger) knee issues. Issues that started with Butch.

https://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/11/tiger-woods-200-swing-butch-harmon-hank-haney

Under Butch, Tiger's swing looked amazing but not even Tiger could swing like that forever.

I think Rose knows better than anyone about what he needs and what his body can handle.

So lots of words and nothing proved. Of all of the players Foley has had an instructor over time what players went to Foley with no verifiable back issues that left him because he caused them back issues with his teachings? Professional touring golfers are all bad backs waiting to happen due to the nature of the game and what toll it takes on the players.

Not true at all. Everyone doesn’t have to like everyone. Who’s Pelzer?? 😂

Pelz auto correct. Yes you don't but the amount of hate they get is predominantly jealousy that they are making huge money doing it. Its not just golf plenty of people get hate/trolls from that area.

I have zero envy or jealousy towards any of the people you mentioned. That’s a fact.

We could get you a job in the media by cherry picking that one line va the whole quote.

"Well, he did and we’re not. Who cares? Did some of the stuff we do put Tiger’s back under too much stress? Maybe. Was that on purpose? No, but during that same time we got Stephen Ames, Justin Rose and Danny Willett all out of serious back pain. Hindsight’s useless. I don’t really reflect. The goal is to maintain where we are, which is the present."

The real truth why people hate the Foley, Ledbetter, Pelzer, etc comes down to the same answer. Envy/jealousy

does the same apply to famous athletes, politicians, etc?

If you don’t find one of them appealing, it’s rooted in jealousy?

Or does that only apply to swing coaches?

I don’t “hate” Foley, but I think some of his swing philosophies are wrong and damaging.

You're joking with this comment, yes?  With regard to Pelz, I have read his book and tried to follow his philosophy.  My putting deteriorated because of what I read and the techniques he taught.  I became too mechanical and lost my feel.  Until I abandoned the Pelz philosophy and went back to my roots (a slight open stance like Jack Nicklaus) did my putting improve.  I have worked on my putting very hard in the past 10 years and now am putting as well as I ever have, which is not like what Pelz mentions in his book, at least not my core putting philosophy.  I do love Pelz putter clip training aids and use them to hone my stroke.  That is one thing I do love about Pelz.  Does this mean I hate Pelz or am jealous of him or have envy.  Absolutely not.

He had him doing that extreme shaft lean/diggy thing on all shots. It was sort of a Crap and Tilt and a TGM hybrid while spending a lot of time standing on the range in front of TV cameras staring through oversized hipster glasses, wearing a murse and the pontificating on TGC, and Golf Digest. All the while destroying the short game and full swing of arguably the greatest player ever. He doubled down by acting like he was smarter than Harmon and Haney, while quoting Ghandi and sporting a dorky haircut and a pretentious “trying too hard” tattoo and attire.

Forgot about the tattoo. Lol. Prob has one that says “strength” in Chinese characters somewhere too

Hindsight isn't useless if people keep on get hurt with your methods and you don't change or care to change them.

Because under Foley, Tiger started hitting these tuggy over the top cuts to left pins, which he very rarely hit before Foley. I hated watching him try to fit cuts into left pins far more often than he used to.

At least that was my impression.

Reality check for all WRXers: Foley doesn't care it you hate him or not. Nor does Patrick Reed.

True but there are some members here who think the world hinges on their opinions.  I know my opinions and a dollar won't buy a cup of coffee.  I am ok with that.

That was Tigers choice though. Tiger hit him up because he liked his work with Rose. I dont think anyone calls up Tiger and says I want to be your swing coach. He has to approach you.
