Buying grips on Ebay

For those that do their own grips. I’ve noticed that brand new high end grips are less than half retail price on eBay. A grip that retails for 10.50 everywhere can be bought for less than $4. Are these legit?

 

It’s a little confusing because you can usually get stuff cheaper than retail on eBay but never less than half price. Unless something is off.  Like they are fake.

Doubtful.  Only buy grips from reputable sources.  There are some on ebay, but not the sellers with just a few hundred feedbacks.  Look for a seller with a LOT of feedback.

They’re all fake.   I’ve made the mistake on multicompound golf prides.... don’t waste your time or money

I've been burned by fakes a few times but thankfully have been able to get my money back. I buy a lot of stuff on ebay but I don't mess with buying grips there anymore. Much better off using a reputable seller like golfworks or grips4less

They're not all fake.

 

I've had good luck with ebay sellers, but I'm going for fairly standard grips (Crosslines, etc...) so nothing particularly "new tech" or trendy.

 

Definitely go for ones with good feedback history.

There are plenty of perfectly legit grips and grip sellers on eBay. The ones that are almost universally fake however are the ones that people usually come to eBay to look for; new grips at a cheaper price than other online retailers. The multicompound grips seem to make up a disproportionate amount of these unfortunately, similar deal with Iomics.

agree what a few others have said, +4 NDMC Align Golf Prides that are priced too good to be true for 8 ... are.

Just curious how can you tell if it is a fake or not.

I would only buy from Golfworks or direct from a reputable source. The fakes are really difficult to tell visually, but are complete garbage.

If they are less than half price, they are probably fake. 20%-25% less, probably legit. Of course YMMV, but I buy most of my grips on Ebay, and have never seen a fake yet.
I just bought 8 No1 grips for $90. They normally sell for about $15 each. I saved about 30%.

Buying from reputable sellers helps insure they're legit. If the seller is selling all kinds of other non golf stuff, you might want to look elsewhere.

I bought some MCC +4 midsize off eBay for about $7.75 a grip when they applied the bulk discount and am now thinking I should have just bought from another retailer. These are hard to find but found them on dicks for about $11 bucks each. Should I just cancel the eBay order to be safe and order from dicks

Fake grips smell TERRIBLE. Like something died inside them and they have been in the Florida sun for a couple days. Legit grips have the standard rubber smell.

 

Assume anything priced that low on eBay is fake even if it's from a reputable seller. Most people looking for deals don't know enough to tell it's fake. They look the same and feel similar but they will not hold up to normal use like a legit grip.

Ultimately, I compare them with some grips I've purchased from retail golf shops. Same visually, same grip level, and most-importantly, same durability (I tend to use grips that last multiple seasons, so they're getting a tough test.)

 

Like I said above, I've had good luck so far with my ebay grip purchases.

I’ve never had an issue buying grips on eBay. I also never buy the cheapest option. If I’m saving a few bucks per grip I feel pretty safe. I usually buy bulk offers and I check the feedback and buy from previous sellers. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.....

Fake on right, real on left.

 

Cord sticks out way past grip surface , rubber is much thinner, grip stinks on the fake.  Fake grip is about a 1/4 shorter as well.

Yep. Thanks for the replies. The consensus is they are fake and I tend to agree. 
 

As the saying goes, if it’s too good to be true it is.   The markup on grips cannot be that much. 
 

I have one of these MCC on one of my clubs and they feel ok to start but wear really quick.

I have only bought Golf Pride Tor Velvets off eBay and they seem legit. Usually $3 each or so.
