Replacing classic Mizuno MP100's... Srixon 945?

Recommended Posts

I never thought the day would come that i'd play anything but a Mizuno blade. I've played 3 sets of MP33's since 2001 and this set of MP100's... Same thing.. I am seriously intrigued by Srixon blades. They seem very similar in blade length and offset specs which should be an easy transition. Now my main question. Which one should I go for? My front runner in looks and reviews is the 945, . Any reason to look at another model?

I’ve used the ZForged for almost two years and they are one of, if not the most solid blade I’ve used. Just a very solid feel and great ballflight throughout the set. I haven’t hit the 945 but they look great as well. I’m really sold on the Srixon line.

That seems to be the consensus. Once you've tried them they are the best. I've seen lots of Mizuno converts on here. I just don't find the newer Mizuno "special". That's why I choose to play such old irons for so long. Now form what i've heard, the 945 and now ZX7's are that.. special. Problem is, after playing such a minimal offset pure blade I don't think I can even play the ZX7's. Those also seem VERY long in terms of distance. I'm coming form the old lofts so even the 945's are going to be much longer. I would expect the ZX7's to be too much.

Been scouring Ebay for a while, It looks like the 945's are holding their value quite well. If anyone on here has a nice set, let me know. I think that's the ones i'm going with until Srixon releases their new line in 2022

What other blades have you gamed? What makes the ZForged the best? Is the V sole different on those? Are you a shallow or steep player?

And they keep going up in price too.  Couple years ago, when I grabbed my first set of older Srixons, you could find a nice condition 4-p for 300-350.  There is a combo set on 2nd swing.

Z745s would be a nice set to find as well.  Good luck.  JT

I found at a demo day the Z-forged really easy to hit. The 945s are certainly good, though in that series I preferred the 745s, which felt just as good and were that bit easier to launch.

However, the 925s were also very good, as @Golfingfanatic said, and I regret passing on a set late last year.

I think the 925s were mostly a JDM release, so they be may hard to find.

Incidentally, I'm currently playing a set of Srixon Pro-100 irons. I don't think they conform to the 2010 groove rule, but they are also stunning blades both to look at and play.

Ah hell I went to edit my response and deleted the whole thing...🤔 so I’ll do it again

I’ve played golf for over 30 years on a pretty good level and have tried almost every blade. I used MP33 for a time years ago but was always a MacGregor guy, but used Bridgestone and Daiwa blades as well. Those three were my longest tenured brands.
I’m a shallow divot guy and I love the small V sole on the ZForged and find the turf interaction to be perfect. I honestly like everything about these irons, the sound, the feel, the consistent mid to mid high flight and I picked up a few yards as well. I find these irons very simple to flight how I want and the long irons are as easy to hit as the short irons

I went from Z945 to Z Forged.  Then I made the trip back to the Z945.  Z Forged are beautiful but the Z945 is the best blade I have ever hit.  You can move them in any direction you want but will never spin up on you in the wind.  Surprisingly forgiving on thin hits and surprisingly long for a blade. I have ZX7 in the way but don’t know if they will make the bag.

I've been toying with a set of those Tourstages at the local golf shop recently. They are indeed a fantastic set of irons.

I gamed the 965 and thought they were excellent! Shockingly easy to hit. Mad I sold them and have been wanting some Z Forged bad, but I heard Srixon 10-12 weeks out!?

Hybrid steel bar? What's that, exactly? I've only picked up the 901s to whack in the shop (many times now), but I haven't done any research on the clubs themselves. Do they have some tungsten or something in the muscle?

Yes..titanium forged circular bar inserted behind muscle...say 8 years ahead of the Cobra toe inserts as an example..says low cog in ad, but others on wrx have found easy mid hi launch.May only be 3 to 5mm diameter by say 40mm long. They are Soft!
