Zero grip pressure

you need a little wrist c-Ck ... so you can hinge and unhinge and get a better / wider low point

to me you’re scooping in the vids, trying to lift the ball

There are different ways to chip. You can read Dave Pelz’s Short Game Bible, but personally what works for me is the “no wrist hinge” chip I learned a couple of years ago from a local instructor. I also choke down, weak grip and take the club straight back, not inside. Works for me, YMMV. If you put in the time, learning a new chipping technique is inexpensive. Just grab a shag bag, find a piece of grass, a target a few yards away, and experiment.

I'm a very average golfer with an above average short game. Want a band aid? Use your 8 iron and strike it from the back of your stance with a putting stroke.

Real deal? Get a 50ish wedge, pre close the face, take it back about a foot, and hit down on it just by moving through the ball and turning your body.

Two shots. This will cover 95pct of true chipping situations. Good luck.

@Cmart050 - your very first move off the ball is killing you.  Hands move outside.  No time to shallow and correct it.  You come in OTT and way too steep.  Makes it sooooo hard to chip.  Chunks and skulls all day long.  Hands need to move straight back or slightly inside.  Over exaggeration at first will help you.  Keep your feet together and just work on your hand path.  Hands go inside, not outside.  You'll have immediate results.

Feet together is key too.  If you allow lower body movement, you could end up going the other way and getting way too inside.  Keep the feet together, will keep the lower body quiet.

Confident this will work for you.

This is misleading information as the camera angle is wrong- ignore this advice is my advice

I come to you guys and gals at wit’s end...two decades of awfulness at chipping have broken me. I can’t enjoy the rest of my game because if a green is missed, it’s four extra strokes. Two to get on, two to putt in.

I’ve read every article, watched every video, bought Use the Bounce, reached the edge of the internet...nothing works.

I don’t even know where to assess the problem. I think I use my hands too much? Who knows. The second it’s a chip with any pressure my game collapses. I learned through lessons with Monte this is a byproduct of bad technique. Maybe everyone can help?

Here is a video from today.

Im a pretty decent chipper and use different techniques, bounce hinge and hold, forward in stance, back in stance etc...  plenty of info out there and in this thread. One that  I do that may help if you are having one of those days where it’s just not working is pretty foolproof. It’s worth practising in case you need it.

narrow stance, handle high almost vertical, hands close, heel off ground so only the toe is grounded.  Feels very much like the wedge is being used as a putter. Hit the ball off the toe part of the club it’s almost impossible to hit it fat(haven’t done it yet). The ball will come of the face dead so you accelerate more naturally.

You cant dig the heel if it’s off the ground and the high handle prevents sculls. It’s great when you need to clear a small amount of rough near the green when a hybrid would have to much roll.

One instructor taught me this “hooded iron chip-putt” technique and I use it occasionally. This was the only good tip I got from him over 5 paid lessons!
