Having played that hole, I can tell you that trying to play a middle iron to that green would be a nightmare. As you can see by the scores there this week, the ladies are having a tough time just hitting wedges to it.

Especially coming out of the rough.

The first round is over, but it didn't provide any answers while opening up many questions:

  1. I doubt either Mel Reid or Megha Ganne will win the tournament
  2. How many of the Top-10 will stay Top-10 for the tournament?  Brooke Henderson, Lexi Thompson and Shanshan Feng?
  3. Will another surprised Korean move to the top, Jenny Shin at +1?
  4. Will Lydia Ko and Inbee Park continue to sit idle at even?
  5. Will Muni He, who's been playing well and sitting at +1, contend?
  6. Will Lucy Li continue to play well?
  7. Will Rachel Heck and Rose Zhang rebound?
  8. Will the Korda sisters fade to the sunset?
  9. How about Patty Tavatanakit, she's surely better than a +4?
  10. Will Ally Ewing, who's short being a magician in Las Vegas last week, win her second tournament in a row?

The list goes on forever, but everything will start to converge after today.

Clearly you admire my skillset. So I will respond.

1. Nope, neither.

2. 2, not sure who though.

3. Yes, Inbee or Jin Young maybe both.

4. No

5. No

6. No

7. Maybe Rose.

8. Fade..not likely, contend no. Not sure Nelly can handle the weather.

9. Is she? Most likely.

10. No

You're very welcome.

As of now it looks like Shanshan made the right choice on Sunday. Give up $20k for a better chance at collecting a $1 million paycheck? Sounds like a good tradeoff.

Heck, I believe if she finishes one spot higher 5th or better it'll cover the difference.

Wow, it's like watching a train wreck. Only four players out on the course are under par for the day.

Exactly...that is what I want to see....MORE PAIN, TROUBLE AND STRESS.

Having to make par on the 72nd hole to win the USWO.....coming into the hole with a longer club.

It's the USWO....it's only once a year....I wanna see the gals in PAIN.🤣

I was surprised by how short it played yesterday, a lot of very short irons into the par 4s.  Given the precision required that's not a bad thing, just a little surprising.

Scoring average was 75.1 yesterday (par 71) with several tees moved up...  I imagine they don't want it to be too much higher than that?

Inbee doing Inbee things. Four birdies and one bogie. Not too shabby.

What a compliment Tripp Isenhour has for Patty Tavatanakit:

"The best short game I've ever seen, men or women."

I guess they're doing anything to thump the tub for this tour these days. If he genuinely believes that, his opinion of course. That said, I would emphatically disagree with him.

Golf Channel should black list Amanda Blumenherst, and never invite her back.

She's entirely out of touch with LPGA today.  She's talking to us from 10-15 years back.

It's because she last played the LPGA 8-12 years ago...and basically been on Mommy time since then....same with GIGGLES Paige.

There is no one in the funnel for a good female to cover women's golf

Dame Laura is too lazy to do TV...Dottie has it too good at CBS.

If Beth Ann MAJOR GIGGLES gets TV work....I'm going to stop watching women's golf....I'll just watch re-runs of the female Big Breaks into perpetuity.

She does media work in Korea...she's likely never going  to come back to the US....but I'd LUV to see Grace Park as a GC permanent GC staffer.

An Asian face for the HUGE Asian women's golf market place.

I volunteered at the 2003 CWO...it was slow in the pro-am on Tues....Grace asked if she could sit down in my golf cart...we chatted for a while.

For those of you who have watched Grace play...this gal has STYLE.

Grace also has an unbelievable amount of SEX APPEAL. It's uncanny....I'm a fanboy.

Another good one would be Virada (retired LPGA and Duke player) who does media work in Thailand.

If the LPGA published scrambling stats we'd have a little data to throw around. Based on my observations Lydia, Inbee, and Ariya are better.

And yet he admits he doesn't watch much LPGA golf. Is it that difficult to find an analyst(s) who actually follows the tour?

I'm retired now. Hey, NBC/GC, give me a call.

You'd be lousy...you're too biased towards The Rocket and Dumbo...you'd have blinders on for all other pros.

Hmmmm...I'm retired too....and guess I'm out of the candidate pool for the same reasons.

LUV Hee Young & In Gee.

It's not easy work....security allowed me into the production van at the 2015 CWO....I wanted Judy to autograph a great pic of us from 2013 Portland.

You can't believe how much PAPERWORK AND STATS were on the desk.

Terry Gannon is a really nice guy.

I'd rather loop for Hee Young or In Gee.

Clean clubs, rake a few bunkers, fix some divots and get drunk each night with the other loops....what a great way to spend the retirement years.

But after the 1st day lugging a 60 lb bag in 100+F heat and humidity....I think I'd be calling in sick the next day.

BUT

I have 1st dibs on Tina to become Lydia's 1st loop NOT TO GET CANNED WITHIN 2 MONTHS.

Tina SCARES ME!....I've chatted with her a few times...she's funny...Sura is shy and likes to go stealth.
