Worst round so far for 2021

Yesterday was what I considered a brutal round for me.  We were playing WIllowick and it's considered one of the easier courses in the OC.  Wide fairways, not too much OB and mostly generous greens.  Many of the holes favor the draw.  Course sets up well for me.  Ended up shooting 81.  Lost a ball but my driving was atrocious.  Ball would curve left more times than usual.  Even well struck shots were curving left even my irons.  Winds were benign as well which is unusual for Santa Ana.  I believe my GIR was 6/10, many of them 20 yards or less to the green.  I felt like a hacker!  I'd like to hear your guys worst rounds of this year.  💣

Yes I know.  My intention was not to brag so I apologize if I came off that way.  I was simply stating facts for myself.  I'm a 5 cap.  I'm almost certain I will have at least one round worst than the one yesterday.  Also, yesterday's golf course is considered pretty easy compared to the most of the other courses around here.  I have high expectations for myself.

I tend to think some players have one of two things happen when they play at easier/more wide open tracts than they're used to: their minds wander because they're not concentrating as hard, and they're not as definitive in their minds on their aiming points because the layout isn't as penal. ... To me following a more strict pre-shot routine often helps.
Otherwise, I'm pretty certain all of us just have (what I call) "bad swing days" - and it's best to dismiss it, as surely the next day will be better.

Might as well share the pain.

Finished last year with a 5.8 index. Came out of lockdown with a couple of 80's and hit the ball reasonably well.

Lost my mind on Saturday. Hit 5 GIR, about normal for me, but was total trash on the other 13 holes. Fat irons, skulled/fat chips, terrible putting. Ended up shooting 93. Ugh.

I will blame the early tee time, which I had to set an alarm for, and then getting to the course to be told there was a 90 minute frost delay.

I hate frost delays.  Luckily the courses around here do a shot gun format when it happens.  Def can throw your game off especially on the greens.  I think we should give you a pass on that round.

Willowick is such a crap hole haha but I love it; grew up playing that course with many great friends of mine. I have so many stories from that place , from gangbangers chasing golfers to crows taking your beers, great times.

There's a squirrel that follows my buddy around.  He fed her some M&M's last time.  This is why we have mutant squirrels the size of house cats here in SoCal.  I like River View more, but Willowick is a nice little track where I can just reach back and hit my driver as hard as I can and not have to worry too much.

I'm not a good golfer. I understand and accept that. But every once in a while I can string together a good round and hold it for 9(ish) holes. Usually it's a few pars, average slightly <1 birdie per round, a lot of bogeys, a few doubles, and a couple blow-up holes.

Best 9 hole (pitch & putt, par 29) round this year: +4

Best 18 hole (exec course, par 60, 3670 yards) round this year: +15 after coming in +2 on the front

Worst round two days ago (par 72): +49 or 121

Quite literally I spent the entire round wondering why I'd forgotten how to hit a golf ball. I couldn't even contact the back of the ball with the face of the club, even badly.

I played the same course I shot the 121 at on Sunday... Granted, they're doing tee box maintenance so the holes were consistently shorter than typical, but my playing partners didn't see much improvement in their scores with the shorter distances, and I did...

Shot a 95 (+23). I felt a LOT better with that result...

Edit: for the SoCal folks, that course is Rancho San Joaquin in Irvine.

Golf is a stupid game, but I sure love it. I play to a 5-ish, not excellent but I usually can get around any 18 hole course and have my score start with a 7.

Not yesterday though! I turned off and deleted the round from Arccos cause I didn't need that influence in my life, but it had to have been a solid 92. Everything was either a 30-35y straight pull or a 30-35y straight push with no consistency, had no clue where the ball was going all day. To top it all off I had a 4 putt double on one of my only 2 GIRs. I cannot for the life of me figure out what happened, nor do I frankly care lol

73... lost to an LPGA pro by 1 shot. 4 handicap BTW.

This could turn very ugly.  There's a thread floating around that asks if a 4 cap can beat an LPGA pro.  I guess we have our answer, lol.  Also, I have a childhood friend that played on the LPGA tour for a season and 5 years on the Symetra tour.  She kicked my a** every time we would tee it up even when I was a 2 cap.

The 69 was at a contender for easiest golf course in America that probably measures out to more like a 75 on an average track. Still I've posted a number of rounds of 74/75 this year on average + difficulty courses and my overall scoring average over 50 rounds on the year everywhere I've played (with some tough tracks involved) is currently 83.

The 102 was a tournament round still under winter conditions where a series of incredibly unfortunate events took place. Mainly 1 quadruple and 1 quintuple (one a tin cup type deal and the other a Tiger forgetting how to hit a wedge in 2015esque type deal), two triples (one included a retee and a water ball, another included a shank into the woods for a lost ball while attempting to carve a 6 iron off a bare lie around trees from the wrong side of the fairway), a missed back handed tap in resulting in a double, a double that involved me having to hack out of knee high junk backwards left handed, then layup following the pitch out on a par 4.

That's 19 of the 30 strokes over par in 6 holes that pretty much could have come out of a three stooges golf special. Except there was only 1 stooge.

Those are just the greatest hits.

I then played a round at a course of comparable difficulty I had just joined that week later that afternoon and shot 81.

93 at TPC Sawgrass.  I'm not a big hitter and was talked into playing from the blues, that stopped after the first 4 holes.  After that I went to the whites and breezed through the course.  It was a lot of fun, the only exception was on 17, always have to play that from the tips out of respect to the Players.

On my worst round a solo joined me on the 16th hole who had no idea that I play 3 times a week.  I hit the ball and putted so poorly with him that on one of the final holes I stuck a green from about 180 (I'm usually pretty good with irons, not so good at putting) he said "that's the shot that will bring you back". I just didn't say anything. That might be the most savage, innocent, non-insulting insult.

Best: 77

Worst: 88

Index at the end of last season (New Jersey): 4.1

Index now: 5.4

Definitely has been a bit of a struggle thus far this season, but feel like it is starting to come around as my last 5 rounds have all been in the 70's, just not mixing in any 74's and 75's like I the last couple of seasons. Still time though.
