Prov1X and the Chromesoft X LS (Low Spin)

Well, as a +1, you would be the one to ask.

Do you play these balls randomly ? Or do you have specific conditions under which you switch off (temp, soft/hard, etc.) ?

Do you not find a difference in chipping and pitching ? And putting ?

TIA

i hit a high ball and generally a mid spin player off wedges.

i prefer a firmer ball off the putter since i have a deep mill putter (i know, counter intuitive but, that's what i like) -- i'm not one for switching off -- usually i will make a choice for the season and exclusively play that. this year, it's the CSXLS.

they really don't spin that much different off wedges...unless you're trying to hit that really low nipping wedge (i don't even generally play this shot that much to be honest)...then the LS will leave you with a little more runout than the ProV.

Q Star Tour (bought just to fill an order for free shipping), and am impressed, much better than the Q stars I bought back in 2012 that just sounded like rocks off the club.

Tour B RX - really impressed by them around the green and like the way they go off the tee. Had my longest drives ever this past weekend with it.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.

As a former 2-4 I would pick a ball and stay with it. Even now, as a 7 (after an operation and trying to get back down there), I want consistency.

Tried out the ProV1, V1x, Cally CS earlier this year and chose the ProV1 just in time to get the 4 for 3 deal.

ProV1x has a higher trajectory, more spin, handles high outside temps, and feels good as I compress it on impact on my soft 620 series.

AVX is more of a line-drive ball that works nicely around the greens, plus it's easy to over-compress losing some distance in high 100'+ heat, but works nicely in cooler temps.  It feels softer to me than new ProV1.

I like the most recently improved AVX ball though, and use it in cooler conditions.  Both ProV1x, and ProV spin more, so either of those balls are less likely to get me in trouble.

Last weekend on #16, I came up short of the long Par 3 on the apron of a long angled green.  Pin was in the back on an elevated section.  I hooded a PW, ball hit, bounced once, slide a few feet and stopped 3' past pin.  Then on #18 I had 125 in, in between PW and 9i, chose 9i.  The pin was in the middle, green has pond on 3 sides.  I hit the ball a bit thin - flew in somewhat low-mid, hit, skipped twice, checked, and rolled a bit then stopped in back middle section of the green.  If I had done that with AVX, I suspect neither shot would have ended with a Par.

how fast do you swing? And how do you know if you "overcompress" the AVX?

you are hitting a 9 iron from 125 so it does not ssound like you are a high speed player and would over compress any ball.

the AVX is not designed as a "line drive" ball.....i dont even know what that means

Honestly, I don't have a SS clue.  I've never cared to measure SS.  When I am in the "desert", due to heat, certain balls compress easier than others, AVX is one, the old Noodle is another.  And so I switch to a much firmer ProV1x.  Also, my lofts are more traditional

AVX is to me, a lower compression ball that has a softer feel for distance.  I don't notice compression or impact sound as much with irons.  It's tied to me hitting the ball solidly with my irons.  How I swing a 9i is not a reliable measure to make a judgment, mostly due the fact, I don't hit the ball using irons as hard as I can.

Titleist advertises AVX as a lower trajectory distance ball, compared to ProV1 and ProV1x.  My "line-drive" comment is like Tiger Woods Stinger; lower more piercing than stock trajectory.  However, in the desert or during really hot SOCA days impact sound of ball off Driver face feels and sounds different when struck pure.

gotcha

yea, the AVX is designed for lower flight.....if you are worried about the heat and compressing the ball, have you thought about Left Dash?  This ball is noticeably firmer and the compression is in the 107 range. BUT it doesnt feel overly "clicky" to me......i just stated using it to see how i like it and its been a suprise. I do like the regular prov1 better, but distance wise, i picked up ~ 7 yards on average. Not a huge deal, but on longer holes, 7 yards off the tee and 7-10 yards further oer iron shot helps.   I only played 2 rounds with it so the review is new, but so far i like it more than i thought i would.

Yep, Left Dash is in the bag, bought a dozen and used it last weekend.  I think I got some extra run out yardage too.  Good on you, 7yds is a lot.  I had no idea compression was 107... that's high even compared to my old Professional 100s. 🙂

I agree regarding ProV1, I like it better than new ProV1x.  Dash even spins a bit more around the green too.  To make the new ProV1x spin less I have to consciously adjust my AoA and not hit it so hard, which wasn't needed with the previous ProV1x.  The spin difference and the sound at impact is perceptibly different off Driver, but there's a crack with irons to that doesn't happen with ProV1 or AVX.  Even my wife said, is that a different ball?

  • 11 months later...

I play what I get a deal on.  I have a ball problem.  I have enough of these to rotate for the next 4 years.  But I will likely buy more balls when there's a deal on Maxfli.

1. 2019 TP5

2. Snell MTB-X

3. Kirkland V2.0

4. Maxfli Tour (Just tried these out and they are REALLY GOOD)

5. TM Tour Response
