Built a driver... Swing weight is E1.. thoughts/advice?

Recommended Posts

Just assembled a G425 LST Driver, Hzrdus Black 75G shaft, Arccos 58G grip - calculating a E0.5 swing weight.

I have played in D7 range in the past, ~113 club head speed. E-range seems pretty extra even for the big stick...

By removing the 14G head weight, I can get this down to D7.5 which seems more reasonable, however I can't imagine this is a good idea?

De-grip, butt trim and add counter weight maybe? Would appreciate any thoughts here.

At that length that seems extremely high for a Swingweight.

Not sure what you're asking, but you are correct that less than E1 is less than E1.

That's a bit much IMO.  Currently playing D5 in my driver and it's perfect.  Anything past D7 is pushing it IMO.

Ping driver heads are notoriously heavy. What is the ungripped length and the ungripped swing weight?

Arccos grip adds length that will affect swing weight measurement, but you shouldn’t be gripping all the way to the end of those arccos grips in use.

I always measure ungripped swing weight and then again with the same old cut 50 gram grip to get to where I want it. If you match everything there it doesn’t matter a gram here or there on grip weight or the added length those arccos grips have.

Swing weight scales are designed for 50 gram grips, anything other than that on the grip end is just tricking the numbers.

Since removing 14 grams from the head only took off 4 points, also make sure your scale is level (matters for balance beam scales, not sure if it matters for digital).

The Arccos extends 0.25" past the shaft butt. I was also surprised to see the arccos weighs 58 grams, opposed to 50 with the old tour velvet I have sitting around.

I should caveat, I am doing this with manual calculations (which I have done fairly successfully in the past) but some could be user error. On Thursday I will be using a scale to assemble a full iron set for the first time. MMC heads, Tour V 125s, with the arccos grips. I figure some tip weight will be needed to get them to a D4. Thanks for your input.

Wait until you can use an actual swingweight scale before you start cutting the shaft and whatnot.

My G400 LST with some lead tape on the head, an NV 75 S at 45.25", and tour velvet grip comes in at D7 on my (cheap) scale, so I'd be surprised if your set up came in that much higher than mine.

Appreciate that. I will give it a go on Thursday in the shop.
