In March I purchased a g425 5H and it felt a tad light but performed well.  So this month I bought the 5w and 7w with stock Alta CB shafts without testing and the 5w felt awful  first time on the course.  Turns out the 5w was only C6!  To make it worse the ping shaft offerings are horrible for reg flex mid-high launch I need.  Each now has 6 grams of lead tape to get to D0.

I know this doesn’t excuse the build but you can buy aftermarket weights fairly cheap. I bought a 5 wood head to turn down into a weak 3 wood. Stock screw weight was 10g and I bought a 14g weight off

That's what I fear - light swing weight, low launch shafts with offerings. I end up buying aftermarket shafts.

 

You might look at the Mizuno ST-Z Fairways. The Motore F3 6 in Reg flex does well in a 5 wood. Ended up sticking 2 small strips of lead tape on back to get it to D3.

Did you buy those new? C6 is low even for Ping.

I bought everything new from an authorized retailer.  I’ll have to buy aftermarket weights as it’s much cheaper than a new shaft.  For now it’s lead tape city on my brand new clubs.  🤨

I spent an hour today at golf galaxy figuring out the stock weights, you’re right 10g, and how much more each club needed to get to D1, my preferred swing weight.  The 5W, 7W and 5h all need the 14g weight and an additional 3.5g of lead tape, and the 6H needs an additional 6g of tape!

Nobody sells anything heavier than 14g weights so I’m still gonna have lead tape on my new clubs.  Ping should not be using counter balance shafts with these light club heads.

C8 sounds about right for the 5 wood based on my experience. So my 5 wood was ordered with a 3 wood length shaft (because I was turning loft down to make it a weak 3 wood) which is 1/2” longer than a standard 5 wood shaft. With 70g Tensei orange I was at D1 ish. If you assume Alta weight and balance point are the same compared to Tensei then the 1/2’ difference is roughly 3 swing weight points. 

‘I’ve since put a 70g Ad-Di and went back to standard 10g weight which put me a hair over D2.
