+1 to Sub70. Great company, great customer service. I've played their woods/hybrid/irons at some point, but not their wedges. Would be curious to hear your thoughts!

I just checked them out.  All their gear seemed pretty decent.

My son has the putter and really likes it too.  He put one of those huge Bryson grips on it but I liked the original grip better.

I got the putter for Christmas and I got the wedges from a friend who used them one round and wanted to keep what he already had.  He sold me the wedges for $130.  For the money I got into the 4 clubs, I really couldn't be happier.

Now that TXG has legitimized these wedges, I’d expect the sales to improve further.  At this point, the only ‘premium’ wedge I’d consider is the Ping with the hydrophobic coating.  The data I’ve seen on that tech seems particularly helpful at retaining spin.

I doubt TXG has much if any influence over the type of person that would be interested in these wedges.  In fact, I doubt most buyers even know who TXG is.

I get your point, but the TXG audience I would say typically isn’t buying golf stuff at Costco, and TXG just presented the data that might influence that audience to seriously consider it.

So the Kirkland wedges spun more in the 52 & 56 and pretty much the same in the 60 when compared to the "best wedges on the market" the Vokeys. Fascinating review. Some people were laughing when this product came out and said Costco has no business making these and that they will be crap. Wonder where those folks are now.

Finding something else to criticize such as looks or intangibles such as " premium wedges more consistent strike for me blah blah"

And they are cast except for some Japanese versions.  Vokey is a wedge hustle basically.

Even LH Vokey offers more lofts and grinds, and customization than most so they make not offer the same value as Kirkland but provide options that are important to a segment of the sports. It is important to me to have different grinds and bounce on my 54 and 58 wedges. The bunkers I face will vary from soft sand to heavy sand/almost mud, and play very differently. Comparisons on mats doesn’t prove much to say Kirkland and Vokey are the same except price. Not saying that forged or high toe wedges are better or not than cast Vokey wedges, but limited options for the Kirkland set misses a large segment of the market.

Like the Model T Ford that you can get in any color so long as it is black, the biggest drawback to Kirkland wedges/putter is there is no customization. The market is over 50% mallets and the gap wedge in game improvement and player’s distance irons is 48 degrees, not 52.

No doubt. My comments were directed towards those people who immediately discounted these wedges upon hearing the details for the release.

I'm sure the target market for these wedges isn't the guys buying new stuff, but rather the ones with R7's still in the bag and will live and die by the 52/56/60 lofts that they've grown up with.

I basically live in clothes I've bought at Costco.  Often every day the only thing that isn't from there is the flipflops on my feet.  I'm an informed consumer who has WAY too much gear, and would still get this set if it was my preferred lofts to try out.  I already use their ball for Spring/Fall golf.

I don't believe the biggest drawback is the lack of customization, they are entry level clubs from a big box retailer that perform as good or better than the big boys but at a fraction of the price.  Generations of golfers learned and played on wedges like these, and survived.  The biggest drawback is you have to have a membership rather than find these at the local golf store (tho it saves me way more money just from gas purchases alone that it isn't a drawback).

I just saw the TXG video on Youtube.  It blew me away that the Costco wedges had 1000+ RPM more spin than the Vokeys.  I thought it would be maybe 300 RPM at most but 1000+ my jaw dropped.

Can't believe the USGA approved this.

10.5 deg Titleist 905R with stock UST Proforce V2 Shaft (Stiff flex)
Titleist 990 (3-PW) with stock Dynamic Gold in S300
Taylormade V-Steel 5W & 3W with Grafalloy Prolaunch Red shafts (Regular Flex)
2011 Adams Tom Watson signature wedges in 52 and 56 degrees with stock steel shafts (Player's Grind)
Rife Island Series Aruba Blade Putter

"Loft for loft, length for length, and shaft for shaft, the ball will go the same distance when hit on the sweet spot regardless how old the iron."

I would guess 75% of the market buys off the shelf wedges.

As mentioned previously about these wedges, a playing partner and friend of mine who's a mid-single digit handicapper uses these Kirkland's to good effect.  He plays his irons and wedges until the old ones are worn out, and he's no equipment snob.  Ask him how much bounce and what grind he's got on his old wedges and he couldn't tell you.  He picks up a club and hits it, and if it performs for him it goes in the bag.

Agreed.  I can't see them being really any different than when I had Vokey 200 series Tour Chromes or the oilcans before that.  No fancy grinds, just worked.

I also wouldn't mind tinkering with them and grinding it myself.  Is basically the same cost as finding blanks anyway more or less and I wouldn't have to worry about the faces and grooves.

It's higher than that.  The amount of golfers that truly frequent this site is less than 1% of the golfing population of North America, and that is global membership (I don't believe they get over 2M "unique" readers a month for 18M page views for a second (unless they count bot attempts)).  And this is the highest populated golf site in the world.

I'd bet that maybe 5% at the very most do custom order wedges .  Even fewer buy a wedge and have it bent at the store.

To be specific, it was only at the 52* lofts that the Costco wedge performed with nearly 1K more spin. In the 56 the difference was closer to 600rpm and at 60* lofts both brands were comparable.

Yes, but then you think to yourself, 'oh dam, the Kirklands ONLY spin as much as the SM8's...'.
