I’d argue this is at least if not more valuable intel depending on the course particularly for 30-100 yard wedge shots and for coming in from odd angles from sprayed shots than it is for putting.  I use information like the maps for approach shots way more than for putting - nothing like hitting the right club but having it be the wrong one because you didn’t take something on the green into consideration.  
 

But, end of the day a player still has to execute their shots - some days they’ll be dialed with approach shots and putts and this will help them go lights out.   Other days nothing is working and not a heat map, range finder or experienced caddy will help.  Granted, that’s on a relative basis but bad days happen to all of us and the mapping/green information doesn’t change that.

Got a greens book for my home club last week and must say so far its helpful but not a silver bullet...

 

Fairly easy to get the jist of where you are on the green but often being out by a meter or two makes a big difference... think more useful for users of Aimpoiny etc. My book has % of slope which is handy... will see how my reading of greens develops having access to the book.

Augusta National doesn't ban them, it requires the player to use the yardage book supplied by the tournament.  For breaks on greens, it's up to the players/caddies to do the work to put whatever notations they want to put in the book in addition to the information that is supplied.

Augusta National does not allow them, plain and simple. Stop trying to seem smarter than everyone else. They should be banned everywhere, it’s absolutely shocking to me that they aren’t. It’s a black eye for the USGA (like they need anymore black eyes). Green reading is OBVIOUSLY a skill, one that is a core part of the game.

That quote is 100% accurate.  Yardage books, with green diagrams and breaks shown as the player's determine are used as I described.

They should ban green reading books and have a couple PGA tournaments where the pros have to play on punched greens. 😂That would be entertaining.
