Driver Loft Adjustment (Titleist / Callaway type adapters) Question

OK so as i understand it on adapters (that have NO adjustable rings) like TM, Cobra, Ping, etc... 

When you adjust loft:

- When you lower the loft it will open the face (10.5 head lower to 9*)

- When you increase loft it will close the face (9* head increased to 10.5*)

 

This is what i understand to be true... correct?

 

Assuming i'm correct on adapters like Titleist and Callaway where you have the adjustment rings to help adjust loft and lie independently, does the same above rules apply?

That's true for ALL adapters (regardless of which OEM and if they have "rings" (cogs).   The relationship is an inherent part of the whole concept of adjusting "loft" on a wood/hybrid.  It has nothing to do with the details of the adapter or adjustment design.  It would even be true if the adjustment was done by bending the hosel (in the same way iron lofts are adjusted).

 

The independent nature of the adjustment with the cogs (rings) is just between loft and lie angle,  not loft and face angle.

Cog style adapters do the exact same thing as rotating hosels. Shaft is tilted in relation to the hosel. Changes in that orientation cause the loft and lie to change relative to where it started out. Different brands may try and market or highlight specific changes, but they are in fact all doing the same thing.

It is also important to remember that the loft/face angle adjustment is really either/or, not both.  What I mean is that when you take a 9* driver and put it in the -1* setting, you actually have a 9* driver with a 1* open face angle.  It will only act like an 8* driver if you square up the face at impact, either naturally through your swing or by rotating the club in your hands at address.
