Thinking about a personalised My Spider X

Can anyone tell me if they have fixed the paint chipping issues with these?

 

Also, lots of reviews on the TM website suggest the white face insert is softer/feels better than the black insert. I have a Tour Red spider (JDay version) and I found it felt softer than the black DJ version. Is the Spider X the same? Does the white face = JDay and all other colours = DJ?

Just actually received me custom spider x yesterday. I also have a custom spider. I’m pretty happy with the way it came out. I also read all the reviews and saw the comments to get the white insert. I can say it’s very soft, almost too soft to me but it feels good. At least it’s not a clicky/hard sound. I can post some pictures if you want.

Yeah I’ll post some pics here in a few minutes. I have the original red spider. A custom spider with a black insert. Then the spider x I just got is with the white. I can compare the 3 if you would like and rate it from softest to hardest.

Sorry for the late response. Hit a few putts with each and really didn’t notice a huge difference. For reference again, original spider had the stock face. Blue spider has a black face. Spider x custom pink has the white face. I would rate hardest to softest has - Blue - Red - Pink. I’m probably not the best person for feel but they don’t feel that different in my opinion. I’ve always putted well with the spider so I’m not too worried. I do wish it was a touch harder off the face IMO.

So I literally just did this myself.  I went almost all black, including the insert.

 

When it arrived, the black insert was seriously jacked up.  I assumed (wrongly I guess) that the black insert was "naturally" black instead of painted.  Mine looked like it was painted by a kid who went to bring your kid to work day.  The grooves were mostly filled with paint and within 10 putts black grit was appearing on it.

 

I contacted TM, sent them a few pictures, and they took it back right away.

 

Just received my re-order, which I changed to the white insert.

 

I was coming from the stock copper model.  The custom white insert I just got looks identical but for whatever reason feels a touch harder to me.

This is not great. Read a few reviews highlighting issues with the paintwork. Certainly not ideal for such a premium priced putter.

 

Then there’s the paint chipping issues. Have they got better at this? My Tour Red is actually in pretty good condition for being over 2 years old. It has a few chips but nothing like some of the others I’ve seen (makes me wonder what people do to their putters, or maybe it’s all about how they are placed in the bag).

 

I’m in Australia. You can’t buy the personalised Spider from their website. So if I do go ahead and purchase I won’t really have the means to return it to TM.

I also have read lots of reviews about chipping paint.  I don't know what to say about that.  I had my copper spider for a few years and the paint was fine.  But I'm also a guy who is OCD about not having any marks or scratches on his putter.

 

The personalized ones are non-returnable, unless you get a really jacked up one like me.

I ordered a MySpider Tour in January with a Tour Red and black schema with a silver face and sole plate. I read about the chipping issues but have not experienced anything of the kind. I have never been the guy slamming an uncovered putter into a bag either. That is a recipe for chips, dings, and scrapes. The website said it would be 8 weeks out, but I received just shy of a month. The customization was a great process and I have zero regrets.

The 2021 Spider X Hydro Blast was a direct response to paint chipping complaints, only the white on top is paint.  It's not personalized at all but if you are worried about paint chipping that could be an option as well.  I've played 2 rounds with mine and I really like the flow neck.

Another positive review here for the Hydro Blast. I actually find i prefer the matte finish over the paint and the non chipping is an added bonus

No paint chip issues with any of the Spider X versions for me. Much improved in my opinion over the 'Spider Tour' versions (The Jason 'Red' was awful!!)...
