Anyone gaming zipcore wedges?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently using them.  I have a 48*, 52*, and a 56*.  All are bent weak to give me lofts of 49*, 53* & 58*.  I do that because I need a bit more bounce in my wedges because I have a tendency to get steep.  All are the mid grind raw finish.

My only issue with them at first  was how sharp the leading edge was on them.  It was specifically in the 52* and 56*.  I was able to get the leading edge rounded off, and it made a huge difference for me.  Plenty of spin and very consistent.  I have an extra 56* in my closet to use once I wear the grooves out on the current one.

I recently one a SM8, and I'm getting the 58* D grind to compare to my Zipcore.  The Zipcore is going to be hard to beat, but I'll give it a shot.

I've only had my set a couple of weeks now and they aren't bad.  Not sure if I like them as much as some of my other sets as they feel softer on square hits, so I miss the firmness (maybe feedback?) of my other sets.  Too early in the season to judge spin given the greens are only starting to get mowed and rolled.  But good enough for now.

Not sold on the stock TI Spinner shafts so pulled those and put in a set of TI S400s.

For me, I like the look and versatility. They get plenty of spin, and they have been money out of the sand. I dont really use them for full shots, so I cant really speak to that.

I gamed Vokey's for the past 2-3 decades. I switched to Zipcore this year. I didn't "love" them at first. However, after about 8-10 rounds, I am now a full convert, to the point that I ordered two backup sets. Love the weight of them and my numbers are spot on with all three that I game in the bag. Also, the tour raw finish is a plus IMO.

I’ve got Zipcore’s in 54* and 58* Mid, and waiting for a delivery from Cleveland for a 50* Mid with a DG S400 shaft instead of the standard DG Spinner that I have in the 54 and 58’s.

Also had a 52* Mid, but sold that to go with the 50-54-58 setup instead.

I absolutely LOVE these wedges!! Came from TM Milled Grind and these are on a whole other level. The feel, control, and smoothness are off the charts!

The only downside I’ve found is that they launch very high and spin a ton for me with the DG Spinner shafts, so that’s the reason that I’m trying the DG S400 in my 50*, to try and get a little less spin and more distance in my full swing GW.

Other than that, there’s nothing I don’t like about them, and they influenced my to buy Srixon irons also!

I just got mine today. Looking forward to gaming them this weekend.  Currently have SM8 50 and 56(bent to 55) and a MG2 TW 60. I love my sm8 56 and TW 60. The 50 I honestly am not a fan of.  Purchased a used set of 50mid, 56full, and 60low tour rack zipcores, they felt great at the range but we will see on the course.

Thanks guys for the opinions and feedback thus far. Thinking of going 52 and 58 to accommodate the top of the bag. Currently gaming 50 bent to 51, 56 and 60 but my short game is pretty solid and think I could cope with 1 less wedge.

Sweet...you’ll love them!!

I've been on a spree lately trying to find some different wedges. Long story short I picked up a 58-10 Zipcore this past Tuesday during lunch, and headed to the my club's practice area after work to compare with my old Glide Forged 58 and new-ish SM8 60-08 for all sorts shots inside of 40 yards. Right around the green, 20yds and in, is my biggest struggle right now. The Zipcore impressed me right off the bat. Got through the turf really well, lower flighted, easy to get up in the air and overall felt really good. Putter-like chip swings with the Zipcore was mint.

...the next day I went and picked up the Zipcore 54-10. I think/hope I may be done searching for wedges.

I had a set of RTX4s (not zipcores) which I played well with, however, my house got broken into, and Mr. Audi (Easyyy) himself set me up with a complete set, which I will never be able to thank him enough!!!, that said I just returned to the US 2 days ago and first thing I did was go to the range with the new equipment, I now play Callaway X Forged wedges (52, 56, 60) and I have to say I've missed that feel from Callaway equipment, I am sure the Zipcores are amazing (I've played Cleveland wedges for decades), that said there are many companies that make amazing wedges, but to answer the OPs question, you cannot go wrong by going with Zipcores, good luck.

I got a 50 and 54 Full. Black satin look amazing. They feel great. Stock setup is great. I thought I would have to bend them flat, but I don't. Can't go wrong. I also had a 46* satin chrome that I ended up trading in because I didn't need it, but it def has me thinking of just going 5-9 iron in my next iron set(s). Less irons to buy in a set means more iron sets I can afford, lol. That is one good reason I can think of to go non-set matching PW. They are almost always cheaper than the set-matching wedge.

Agreed! Looking forward to gaming them, but have a feeling the Zipcores and Z 785’s are going to be really good and really tough to knock out of my bag!

Zipcores are top notch wedges. I game sm8 in my gap and these in sand/lob. They perform on the same level and am happy I went the zipcore route.

I played 9 holes yesterday and 18 today. One thing about these wedges are that they are soft. Very soft. The sound is pure bliss compared to my SM8. We have had very little rain since the snow melt so greens are very fast and the top soil is hard. I bladed a few, but if I did my part they landed great and held.  The 60 is quite different than my TW MG2 wedge. I did have a little harder time adjusting to how soft the Zipcore was. Left 50% of my 60 degree shots short. It would not roll out like my MG2 wedge did. It just stopped. Even would hit multiple balls from the same spot and they were side by side.

I love the feel of them and yes they do sound great which is a nice bonus. Tons of spin even from those awkward yardages.

Yeah, I’ve found the same thing...the Zipcores are softer, launch higher, and spin more than any wedge I’ve had before.

Absolutely love all those things, but will take time to adjust to and am leaving everything short right now too.

Played first round with 50 and 54 Full. I actually forgot my 60 at home so got a lot of time in with the 54. I am a weak weak bunker player and the the two bunker shots I hit with the 54 came out very well. The full sole never felt clunky or too wide or anything on other shots.
