Is Arizona Grand Golf Course worth playing?

Recommended Posts

I am traveling to Phoenix in May and staying at the Arizona Grand hotel.  I am traveling with my family and would have time to squeeze in an early round during a week day.  I am hoping someone can give me some information about the quality of the course and typical conditions so I can decide if it is worth it to bring my clubs on our trip.

Thanks!

Strip club has better food.

Bonus 2: There is also a Waffle House with a strip club next to it right there.

No, it is an awful course, just a bunch of goofy, awkward holes, many of which are crammed into a housing development. Constantly regarded as one of the worst layouts in metro Phoenix. If you have a car or can get a hotel shuttle, uber, etc., drive 2 miles down the road and play Legacy or Raven instead. AZ Grand isn't worth bringing your clubs for if it's the only round you are going to play.

Bring your clubs on the trip but do not play that course.  Regardless of how conditions are, it's awful.  One of the worst designed courses in the valley.  Bring your clubs and play Legacy, Raven, or Papago, all within a 15 minute drive of AZ Grand.

Only if they are paying you.

Raven is 5 minutes away - that is worth playing.  As is Legacy.

I did the same thing. Had barely enough time to squeeze in a round, was staying there, and it was cheap. Like others said, it’s a poorly designed course. The first few holes are trash, and then it gets a little weird, and then it gets a little better toward the end.
the grand and tapatio used to be sister properties, and I feel the same about lookout mtn.
If you’re already there and it’s all you can get in, it’s better than nothing, but there are much better options.

Totally agree - Raven (more traditional layout, pine trees) or Legacy (desert) are far better choices.

Legacy has been in great shape all winter and while I consider both courses in the same tier, I've found Legacy's pricing significantly less than Raven's.

Bonus: an In N out is within shouting distance of the AZ Grand if you need a burger fix.
